I just thank God I'm a Lineman in PA & can't be laid off. Just went over 25yrs last Friday, hope to make it to 30

That's not a Lineman. They don't refer to themselves as Lineman anyway, that's an inside term, and someone stirring the pot. No "lineman" is on a layoff board bragging He's not laid off, and can't get laid off, and going to make 30 years. So who are you? And, why are you doing this is the question. Sounds like someone very anti Union from the inside. At least the Union has a voice and sticks together, There not at the mercy of multi-million dollar executives that lead you off to slaughter for their greed. So, Go Union, don't go down without a fight. Stick together, Lowell and his kids hate you for you fighting for your kids.

Mid-Atlantic is the most profitable, it's all in the reports (I don't work for you, find them yourself...).
VZ sold Florida because of access fees and they weren't as profitable as other areas (too many access fees, they don't own the whole network like they do the Mid-Atlantic; which is why it is the crown jewel). Why put $X and get $X times 5 out when you can put $X in and get $X times 10 out? Virginia and north is the new Verizon.

I think you'd be shocked at the current residential line counts in the NYC metro area. Shocked at how few lines the switches now have. Sure, some have moved to fios, SIP and cell, but most are just, gone. Even businesses have up and left, there's more than one game in town. Believe I read somewhere that FL was the most profitable wireline state.

If that's the the case, everyone else has a no layoff clause. The truth is we have no contract, and the no layoff clause, and the lineman letter, need to be renegotiated every contract. Dumbass.

FIOS and residential copper wire are like the telegraph and street cars, a casualty of progress. Both will be gone soon.

the last vestiges of a once great company are all being sold off now. i am sure the crown jewel (mid Atlantic) states are next. VZ MGT has sold towers, access lines, RIF'd thousands of managers and offered eisp's to thousands of craft(think of the experience that has left). It's all over but the perp walk on CNBC when the exec start cooking the books. I have 16 years in, 3rd generation union worker who was proud to say I worked for Bell Telephone system......not anymore. I wish to hold out for 4 more years and retire early and work another trade I have learned during my time with VZ. I pray all who involved in this round of negotiations have backup plans.....the tread on the tires are getting low.
I am a retiree. I have worked in both the union and management. I have many friends in both. I certainly hope that vz holds on to the wireline in the midatlantic states. It will hurt many people if they sell it off.
I've witnessed the sales of all the other parts of wireline, Hawaii , New England , Midwest, and now ca., tx., and fla.
I fear that since they stopped rolling out fios they will sell the mid Atlantic as well.
My father and uncle worked for the the company as well. Both were very proud of the company as was I.
I find it difficult to support a company and management that seems to have forgotten the workforce that has made them a top telecommunication company in the world.

you may not get laid off but you can get sold. if we still don't have a contract and get a new owner , they can do anything. then we start over and bargain from scratch! i put nothing past them anymore!
