I was there for 22 years and got laid off last October on a technicality and then the lady with 30+ years decided to retire 6 months later .. it's a harsh company for management...

"Go back to being an associate" sounds like you left your tools behind and went in to management?
22 years means you were under the pre-2003 no layoff clause? Should have never given that up as I'm sure you are well aware of right about now.
