Wireless appears to be a dying business.

infancy, that is
Wireless needed wireline to bankroll it in it's infance.
Wireless needs wireline to work.
Wireless will need wireline when cell service is $20/month, and the only real income stream is from wireline offerings.
Q Does VZW have its own network?
Always amusing to read the thoughts of union employee especially the part about Wireless needing Wireline. For what? We didn't need you in the past why would we need you now.. All I know is my STI was much higher before the payout was based on both wireless and Wireline results . It is not 19950's and unions are not needed in call centers

Unionization will not save your job. If a RIF is coming, it's emminant - there isn't a thing you can do about it and a union will not be able to save your job.
Call Tim Dubnau I am a unizionied vzw best choice I have made me and 200 union employees have more job procetions than any other part of wireless and will not be part of the the upcoming RIFs and changes made to business 2123442515
Again, wireless got scared straight. Denny Stegl set the tone by not thinking twice about closing or relocating call centers in order to keep the union out.
@204730 -- "no one is getting $700 a year from me." Are you serious?!?!?! Enjoy making $15k-$20k less per year, while the company enjoys that extra $15k-$20k in their pocket while they lay people off. Your math is dumb. I'll take $20k a year over $700 any day. A union call center employee makes between $70k and $100k/yr + better benefits. Do some research - and please avoid joining an accounting firm or making any kind of major financial decisions in the future for yourself or your family. Union employees are paid what they deserve - which is a fair wage based on the money these companies bring in.
@2204730, you can't see the forest for the trees. "no one is getting $700 a year from me." I suppose job security and a pension isn't worth that. Too many people are willingly participating in their own demise.
Carefully....they join carefully.
Call centers won't unionize because Verizon will close them or relocate them. It's why Orangeburg moved to Wilmington and why Morristown moved to Charleston. It's why Woburn, Mass was closed. As it stands, most wireless call centers are in Right to Work states so unionizing is not practical.
I think it all depends on the work setting. Example: call centers and unions=not the best idea. 50% of the building has to agree. There are no benefits for it there. No one is getting $700 a year from me.
So all the wireless people I have spoken with (I am a wireline union member) have told me they are not interested in joining the union. Their reasoning.... wireless takes care of them. Funny how tunes change when 9000 of your wireless friends lose their job at the snap of a finger. I'll remain union forever. What we get in pay/benefits is fought for and is nothing the company would ever consider in "taking care" of their employees. How the wireless side thinks, to include its retail employees specifically is kind of funny. NEWSFLASH: wireless needs wireline work! Understand that, unionize, and be successful like your wireline counterparts.
You could contact CWA and they can help you. That's Communication Workers of America.
Ask Bianca Cunningham.
Contact the unions in your state. Search Verizon NY union for instance. Actually Wireless in NY has some union employees. Make the move. Uncle Lowell could care less about you.
