Most of the company workers call.center workers might be located on foreign soil. They are not H1b folks who are physically in US. H1b employees are small fraction of the jobs. Offshoring is the biggest threat to the American middle class. Millions of jobs are moving out to all over the world. Just like the way Manufacturing jobs left the country in the 80s as 90s. Now the desk jobs are moving out. Some of the jobs like bank teller are replaced by virtual remote video conferencing based teller in offshore. Similarly the security guard at our gated community job is remote. And then recently our city replaced trash picking guy with a robotic arm at the back of the trash truck. Thousands of jobs vanished overnight. Cameras at the traffic lights reduced the work for traffic cops in the recent past. And then google will make sure that all the cab driver jobs will either vanish or they will become remote driver assisted with more autonomous cars. Technology will take away about 80% of the traditional jobs in the next 2 decades. I am more worried about our children and the kind of skills they need.
