I was notified today, I heard from a few others who were as well. My org had already gone through the RIF a few weeks back, this is just second level of that RIF. I would imagine there is some need for there to be a staggered off-payroll from a financial numbers standpoint for the Companymfor results. The earlier RIFs are off payroll in 2015: this round early Feb., and there is yet another round with off payroll in April. That is 3 different reporting periods for the Company. I have many years with company, but once the shock wears off, as it has some already, I am feeling relief. There are a lot of job opportunities in my area, and I know there is really no security any longer with this company. There is that underlying feeling of stress knowing a RIF is always around the corner, and even as a top and valued performer, I have always known my job- no job- is safe here. With SPRINT and other companies cutting severances, it is only a matter of time before VZ does the same. I will take the time to understand what type of environment is right for me, likely a smaller company. What I will do is finish my time out here with the grace and professionalism which defines me because that is part of my personal Credo. I think it is important in life that people develop and maintain their own value system and make that what drives and directs you no matter what is going on around you. It is the one thing in life you can control: how you respond to life. For anyone who is RIFd this week or next month or next year, remember you are not defined in any way by a company that changes its message/image/vision/values/goals/name /culture based on The Next Best perceived thing. Instead, taken the time if you haven't already done so in your time as a human, tontruly understand what your core values are, and then live up to that value system. The rest is white noise. If you lose a week or a day or even an hour fretting over and trying to make sense of a company as rudderless and confused as this once powerful company has become, than you have wasted valuable time. If you lose your job, go hug your kid or take a wonderful walk outside and decompress with perspective. Don't let the Turkeys get you down. Get you resume polished, get commitments from co-workers and supervisors for references and ask yourself, "If I could work at any place, where would that be?". Maybe 2 part time jobs or maybe something completely different. Be happy. Don't let a company in the business of making its top leaders wealthy take even a minute of your happiness or good name or self-esteem from you. That is worth more than this company, even on a bad day. Best to all.

Exiting based on YOUR value system is far from going quietly or being sheep-like. In fact, it is the opposite. Who you are is .... measured...by how you act when stuff around you crumbles. And when you do what is right - based on YOUR values - then that speaks louder to the people around you, including your former boss or anyone else who comes in contact with you, than anger or hostility.
In life, no one remembers what you say or do. But people always remember how they felt in your presence. When someone thinks of me, they will remember me for my calm and sense-of-self. You should be driven in life by your beliefs, not by some reactionary process based on what other people or institutions may or may not do which you cannot control.
At the end of the day ... if you have crossed your i's and dotted your t's and have been a good, kind person, then you did good. The rest will happen; it will fall into place. Believe in your self, in your power as a person with self-awareness, and let that sense of well-being drive you. Make the best decisions you can make given what you know to be true, and feel good that you did what you knew to be right at the time. It's how you self-actualize in life. If you are angry and uncertain, then, you need to do the work. Own your feelings. No one can "make" anyone feel anything.
And for people posting about the evil or backstabbing or nasty or whatever people who did this to you, or who were horrible to work for or with, than count it as a blessing you've been given this opportunity to be pushed out the door so you can find something sweeter, better, more aligned with your goals as a human.
It's not about luck - good or bad - it's about embracing yourself from the inside out. People will respond to that self.
These are all great positive posts. I was let go on the 5th. (I was just shy of 25 years of service). I have been through all sorts of emotions but I think in the end I will be OK...
Though our time here is limited, and riches on this earth mean nothing in the big scheme of things, it still would have been nice if there were a means of people being a little more cooperative and united, of having one another's backs and being a team, a family, rather than some of the underhanded backstabbing and undermining I've seen that preceded this situation.
Yes. Do not make any waves or stand up for yourself. Quietly exit this part of your life. Do not make excuses as to your value or why you should have been spared. Follow the noble sheep. Remember always, the meek will inherit the Earth. God Bless.
thank you for taking the time to offer this insight, i have been away from there for 4 months and feel more at ease; the last 5 years were intense but i couldnt take another five or another one. i was holding on to health benefits but my health was deteriorating just being there, so what's truly the benefit of that?
My husband and I used to be a 2-Verizon family. He was RIF'd a year ago, and by the grace of God landed a better job and is doing well. Now it's my turn, and I know the same will hold true for me. To those believers out there, we serve an amazing God, don't lose faith!! And as my former Director says, "Leave nice."
Very well said. In the end, it doesn't matter who you know or what you have, only who you are, truly, and make that person shine as a reflection of you. I would imagine at the end of a lifetime, in reflection, people who shine of themselves, who have done what is right and fair and noble, will see a life well lived. And someone like Lowell McAdams will be weighed down with the knowledge he lived a greedy life and got lost in his sense of power. People call it Karma. But I think it is more the understanding part of human DNA that your only time on Earth was deliberately driven by self. There are many examples of company leaders who when faced with shrinking revenue thought first of employees and their families. Never buy a VZ product. Don't feed this company.

This is a really nice message and I agree that it's important to define oneself internally and not externally, as to prevent the paralyzation of being let go. In this world of VZ everyone should already be looking into and preparing for alternatives. You just can't pray for safety. Take ownership of your life and your future and you will be far ahead in the end.
