Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I retired last year with 18 years and 75 points, Verizon landline doesn't pay any of the premium. I had to go on COBRA for 570.00 per month because to keep VZ plan I would have cost me over $1000 per month. Unless you have the 75 you can't be considered retired...

I pay $325.00 a month for both medical and dental. I am in Texas and retired with my GTE benefits. All former GTE employees are grandfathered.

I was laid off in February but had my points so qualify as a retiree. I had 27 years in, all wireless. My health insurance here in NJ (for single) will cost me $10.4K next year.

Management retiree health care benefits were frozen roughly around 2008. If you had 30 years of service (including the 18 months) they added to your service at that tme you would receive 80% of cost paid by Verizon. Less than 30 years and they reduce their contribution in 4 % increments. I left with 34 years service but only 29 years 8 months toward retiree health so I get 76%. Not bad but each year since I left my cost has risen. For 2016 I will pay $350/mo. for me plus 1 an increase of $50/mo from last year. Good luck to all who are impacted !

You do need 75 points. I just want an idea what I'm in for.
