Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

So how does this work?

Can someone help me understand this situation. The leaders of the company are paid big bucks (millions) as they are supposed to foresee situations and move the big ship. They make the big decisions on what business we need to be in etc. But when those business decisions go wrong they are still sitting in their plush seats while the people who did not make those decisions are the ones getting kicked out.

Arent the people who made those decisions supposed to take ownership and be impacted as well??

You can try to do the same, climb the ladder and once you reach that level you too will be protected and well paid

Trickle down: Don't forget THEIR raises. Lowell took a 16% raise when the numbers came out. $18 million a year to drive the company into the ground. Imagine the families that wouldn't be worrying if he (and the others) simply skipped a few raises?

We should force a say on pay vote in Verizon shareholder meetings. It will at least bring the issue to the front.

Here's how it works. If the company is doing well, the top execs get paid millions but still try to cut expenses. This means selling real estate, firing management, bringing in H1B's, and taking benefits away from the union worker. If the company isn't doing well, the top execs still get paid millions, but try to cut even more expenses. They never seem to have to feel the knot in their stomachs, and the sleepless nights, of wondering if their job/pension/401k is going away. They have lost their humanity.

Yes, You are correct. However in this case and many others, the cronies on the Board are all of their friends. This is absolutely disgusting and should be investigated.
