I just applied for 2nd week unemployment in Maryland, it looks like $ 430 a week. I keep records of all job seeking conversations, emails, applied applications, etc....anyway. This information is required for unemployment, and must be kept for a year, so I may as well collect something before eventually landing a job, and reduce the bank account drainage.

It's about 2.5K here in Seattle - it depends on the state (as they stated below)

Nope, here in Massachusetts you get about 1,000 per month in unemployment up to 26 weeks and that can be extended

I'll sum it up for you - you will get about 2K a month, it's not enough and it's taxable. You need to find a job quickly...

There is a good State By State Unemployment Comparison Chart here: http://fileunemployment.org/unemployment-benefits-comparison-by-state

I only know CA - max is $450/wk. Here is the benefits table and how it works out. http://www.edd.ca.gov/pdf_pub_ctr/de1101bt5.pdf

You need to know your state's calculations and do some math - I know for New York, but you need to verify your state for details - there is a ton of stuff on Cali EDD site...

In NY, to figure out your unemployment, take your highest paid quarter of the past year, and divide that by 13 (number of weeks in a quarter). For example, if you are paid 60K salary evenly, your quarter would be 15K. Divided by 13, your weekly amount would be $1150.

Except, the max weekly amount that the government will give you in unemployment is $420.

Another piece of the puzzle is length of payments - in NY, you only get benefits up to 26 weeks, although you may be eligible for emergency unemployment compensation or other extended benefits - hopefully you will not need it longer than 6 months. Also, you need to be actively looking for job while receiving money, so you cannot go back to scholl and receive unemployment benefits.

It depends on the state. Try google 2015 unemployment benefits by state. Check your states website for details, there are a lot of specific rules involved.
