Wireless revenue is always up and wireline is always down. New business comes from wireless. Why does wireline get a bulk of the mindshare when it comes to structure and and who gets to stay or go.
Of course there will be. Job Security, or lack thereof, is the new fear in the workplace.
It doesn't matter if VES makes a profit, verizon will find a way to tank it.
Just basing this off past and current experience. Currently there is NOTHING that Verizon cannot f**k up it seems.
If you work for Verizon Communications, a subsidiary, or a shell company owned by Verizon and are in the USA on WITH "H1B" Visa then you will not be riffed, fired, or terminated.
If you work for Verizon Communications, a subsidiary, or a shell company owned by Verizon and are in the USA WITHOUT a"H1B" Visa then your ass is fair game for firing, riffing, buy-out, termination, elimination etc etc. at a moments notice.

If Enterprise revenues continue to decline each quarter and near-term growth does not occur, it would only follow that force reductions will continue as the company tries to scale its expenses with revenues. But the problem is not limited to the actual VES business unit. All the centralized supporting groups that work with the Enterprise need to be evaluated too. Why is there a corporate CMO and a Enterprise business unit CMO? Why is there a Corporate CFO and a CFO overseeing the Wireline & Wireless Business Units? Is the New Product Development Group really come up with some new enterprise product which will revolutionize a business which is declining world-wide, including its competitors? Is Enterprise just a contract renewal business, with no potential to sign new profitable business? The enterprise business unit appears to be a game of musical chairs, with major re-orgs every 6-9 months and continual RIFs to match. I suspect more folks are focused on preservation, rather than growth initiatives - but I can understand why!

VES is Perhaps the least safe of all. Terremark has been a disaster financially and Chris has not been able to turn it around on the revenue side. I would expect a sale or regular Rifs unless increased paid jobs can make the case that growth requires the headcount.

I would keep my resume ready, and if something good opens up, I would take it. But if you can get a rif package, even better.
Re rumors of changing the severance: there have been such rumors for many years, but that doesn't mean it won't become true! The time it did change that I am aware of was with MCI, it was either uncapped or capped at 52 weeks, and that was reduced to the Verizon 35 week cap
Do not Contract to hire at Verizon, thet are ending contracts early, seen some 30 month contracts ending adter 12 & 18 months
There is a rumor that the 2 week pay per year of service capped to 17.5 years might not be intact next year. Any comments?
If you want job security then don't work for Verizon.
The answer is most definitely yes. And lets quit calling them layoffs, the correct term is fired. Your position has been eliminated and you have been fired. The firings will continue quarterly across all lines and organizations of the business.
VES will be sold off entirely or there will be multiple rounds of layoffs. I don't think anyone, anywhere is safe.
