210, that is an excellent question. I was astonished when I first started seeing it happen. I have even seen someone riffed and utimately replaced by some H1Bs. It is amazing that this is allowed to happen in America. Verizon does not have America's back, and for every Vet they hire, they probably hire two H1Bs.

Plenty in Finance! I had no idea; I work in IT, so only was aware of what was in IT. What's the "justification" for H1B in Finance?

The federal government controls the number of H1Bs that are being let into this country. Unless we make it an issue for the government (doesn't seem like it's "our government" anymore!), then nothing is going to change. If we sit by quietly, then we are accepting the f'ing we are getting. The only way to change this is to make some pressure on our federal representatives - house and senate. As I said in another post, the only way Verizon could be letting so many of us go is if they have an H1B plan in their pocket.

I agree with both of you below, but agree with #864 that we've got to unit both groups of people that are trying to stop non-Americans from stealing our jobs! Yes, 864, you are correct about the illegals. However, to hear the candidates and the media, one would think the illegals are the only immigration problem. What is woefully absent from the discussion is the H1B problem. We get it with the illegals and something should be done about them, BUT the H1B problem is rarely mentioned and something must be done about them, too. The TV media won't discuss the H1B problem because they rely on corporate sponsorships who are at the core of the problem. Yet, they will go on ad infinitum about illegals. Ilegals, illegals, illegals. We get it already. And it has become a distraction - a red herring - for the candidates. If they are asked about "the immigration problem", they will only talk about the illegals. Now, some folks might say that H1B's aren't really immigrants. Well, that's beside the point. They come over for a 3 year stint that can easily be extended to 6. And many do get their green cards and stay forever. And we are talking about 85,000 new H1B's every single year with triple that annual number if many of the candidates get their way. So call them immigrants or them them ding-dongs, they are a ravenous horde invading this country and taking our middle class jobs. And the worst part of it all is they are being invited by corporate scoundrels who control both the media and the politicians. I don't know what else to say other than, yes, the illegals are a problem BUT they are not the only problem. The illegals are not taking the tech jobs but the H1B's are. There are enough good Americans out there already fighting the good fight against the illegals, but most Americans outside of the tech sector are painfully unaware of the disgraceful number of H1B's coming in year after year after year and displacing American tech workers. Tell your friends, tell your neighbors, shout it in the street and yell it from the rooftop that ANY candidate from either party who will not demand an immediate and drastic reduction of the number of H1B's is an Un-American traitor that is completely undeserving of ANY public office lest it be dog catcher. It is easy for a candidate to stand up and speak out against the "illegals". It's easy! But it takes backbone and integrity to take on the corporate powers and say the H1B program is being horribly abused and must be ended today! Few few politicians have that backbone and we must hold their traitorous feet to the fire. Educate your neighbors and speak out against H1B's at every opportunity.

H1Bs concern those of us in IT that can have their jobs replaced. However, Illegal Immigrants are taking the jobs of those US citizens that have lower-paying jobs. It used to be that the construction industry offered jobs to those less-well educated, but that were willing to move up the economic ladder through hard work. Now, those jobs have been given over to the illegals. A couple of examples: my subdivision, when I moved in, had black US citizens working as roofers and masons (brick work), and the owner of the mason company was himself black. Within a couple of years, all of the roofers were illegal immigrants, and totally displaced all of the roofers and masons. It's a lie to say Americans didn't want those jobs, that illegals are only taking the jobs over that American's don't want! It's like cancer: when one company hires illegals, they are cutting their costs, and can underbid other companies that were hiring US citizens. To stay competitive, all of the other roofers and masonry companies had to release their US citizens and replace them with illegals. So you end up with companies who's sells force is American, owned by Americans, but all of the employees below that level are illegal. In my area, you can no longer hire a roofer, painter, landscaping, or masonry company to do work that is serviced by US citizens - the illegals have completely taken over those jobs. Where are our black inner-city youths that typically have limited skills going to get jobs when the entry jobs, such as construction, no longer give them an opportunity? Same with all of the people released from prisons and want to turn their lives around - they used to turn, in large numbers, to construction. Now they have no choice either. So, you can't say "get rid of H1Bs because they affect our jobs", while ignoring the illegals that are taking away the jobs and opportunities of so many less-educated US citizens; we've got to eliminate both sources of pain for our citizens, so all of us, can get and keep our jobs!

Malkin is absolutely correct. Say what you will about the CNBC debate, at least they asked Rubio about his position on H1B's. The problem is that they should have asked EVERY candidate to explain their positions. Illegal Mexicans - as bad as that problem may be - has become the Great Red Herring to distract Americans from the Other Great Evil - H1B's. This last debate was laughable - lots of chest pounding about Mexicans but not one word about the National H1B Disgrace. Of course, that debate was sponsored by The Wall Street Journal, the last people to allow such a question. Don't let anyone try to make this a partisan issue. The question of H1B's should be asked of every candidate of both parties OVER and OVER and OVER.
