When VZW bought Alltel and we stood in a giant tent on black asphalt in the middle of August in Arkansas, I clearly remember them telling us that they will never outsource to India and bragging on the fact that they never had a layoff.

I was with company for 26 years in IT. I never ever heard them say that. I think you are mistaken in your statement.
I.remember when VZ missed Iphone boat, some top executive took the blame and retired. However, when the Vodaphone purchase has gone off by tens of billions, no one took the blame. We should ask Lowell and his team to surrender all the bonus they took in the last few years and step.down accepting their failure.
I'm not going to defend that payment which was probably $50b more than it was worth.

@197364 So then why did the suits spend 130 billion dollars to acquire the peaked/plateaued/saturated (your own words) wireless arm of Vodaphone? Are they going to feel any pain at all, or is it just the lower level management grunts who will get canned and the lower level union grunts who will get their pensions and 401ks dropped?
They never said that. People have been fired from VzW since inception. What's new to VzW are mass layoffs and it's a sign of a saturated market. Every industry has an arc. Look at personal computing. How many people own desktop computers anymore? How many people have traded laptops for tablets?
You don't need the same number of employees for a device that's plateaued or in decline.
