Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

We, the wireline network IT team, do not have any meaningful work for most part of this year.

I see most of the teams have been trying to create work and pretend to be busy on several routine calls a day. Whatever the maintenance work needed to keep the systems up and running is mostly done by offshore India team and most of the onshore team is acting up busy in tracking the progress of their offshore counterparts.

057.. I am all aware of the educational cost in US and pl. do not compare Harvard ( not Harward) with the best India has.. IITs or IIMs. I do not doubt about the quality of many Indians who are abroad. But tell me honestly, in the last 68 years after India got its independence, how many resident people there have contributed to anything NEW in Science/Technology/Medicine etc? On the other hand, they are somewhat OK in copying others ( still China will beat them). Right, made in China products are abundant in India.

828 Do you know how much you need to shell out to study in am American school like Harward? It will be million times more expensive than an Indian school.

That is so lame Mr. Chennai. We know what kind of quality programmers are created every year in India where the no. of Engineering colleges is more than 100 times the no. of districts and where donation or paid seat is such a huge factor to get admitted.

We had to document every step in extreme detail or the work given to the offshore team would get screwed up.

183 overnight we will shift to another high paying technology. Indians are skilled to upgrade their skills and change the domains very quickly. Already we have training centers that train people on new technologies like IOT, smart cities, driverless automobiles, etc.

Not sure where you are located. Wireline IT here is working 60+ hours a week..callous nights and weekend due to head count losses. Offshore teams provide no real value for us.

Thanks for acknowledging that the India IT team is the real work-engine and US team is just collecting status on the work done by India team. What is called? Paracitism?

Hum..not sure what the leadership is doing. Someone must be measuring the effectiveness and the real value created by these teams. Unless entire hierarchy from top to bottom is acting busy.

In our team, everyone is kept busy on adopting a new tool set for DevOps, replacing an in house DevOps tool with multiple Vendor tools. No one is working to deliver business value.
