Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

What's going on.

The geniuses up at the top went on a world record 130 billion dollar spending spree (with borrowed money) to buyout Vodaphones interest in VZ wireless. These same geniuses didn't foresee the other wireless carriers starting price wars and cutting their own margins down to almost nothing, with Verizon then needing to follow suit just to keep customers. So now lots of unfortunate worker bees will have to be laid off, while others have their pensions/401k's attacked, in order to make the crappy balance sheet look better. One thing you can rest assured about is that the handful of upper management that made the 130 billion dollar Vodaphone decision won't feel any pain at all. No firings at that level or even a reduction in anybody's compensation. OK, now that I got that off my chest let us peons resume fighting with each other over whether unions are good or bad, like the puppet masters want us to.

I remember a VP claiming that he was underpaid and everybody below him was overpaid. Guess that's how they look at things.

"Verizon is positioned to be the FedEx of the digital age," says Verizon chief Lowell McAdam.

FedEx is number 3 in the world. Why wouldn't you aspire to be NUMBER 1????

Oh that's right UPS is UNION.

Many of the current socially accepted and tolerated behaviors were, few dacades ago, seen as medical conditions or birth defects. Likewise, Executive compensation no longer looks abnormal in the society. Another unfortunate social acceptance. President of a county is paid less than $200k per ysar.

Divide et impera. (Latin maxim)

Translation: "Divide and rule."

  1. A reference to the policy of stirring up dissension and rivalries within the ranks of one's enemies, as Caesar did in Gaul and elsewhere.

  2. This ancient political maxim, adopted by Machiavelli, is also given as Divide ut regnes and as Divide ut imperes, all of which mean "divide (the opposition) in order to rule" or "divide and conquer".

A single year compensation of a top exec without all the perks is equal to salary of 250 engineers. How much value can one individual bring to get paid in this manner ?
