and most of the upper management.
Get rid of all the exec's. Run the company for long term goals rather than short term profits. It takes a special kind of stupid to ruin a cash cow like Verizon, Lowell and co are that type of stupid.
Offer part time or job sharing.
Get rid of middle management - not just a title change and keep the actual workers. Offer pkgs proactively so people who want out can leave.. Then you don't have people dealing with job loss and people upset they didn't get cut in the same dept. Cut OT in those jobs at risk.... and mean it. OT still going on in the job I was cut from - surely enough to cover my salary.
