Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Just spoke with someone in Representative Kathy Castle's office (Tampa, Fl).

OK, so here's the deal. One of the offices we keep hearing about here, in terms of HB1 abuse, seems to be Temple Terrace, FL. Keeping in mind that a bunch of employees getting laid off isn't really a headline grabbing story, we have to think about ANYTHING that could make this a headline grabbing story. In my opinion, since Senator Marc Rubio has received so much bad publicity and criticism regarding his lack of leadership in his HOME state while running for President, the fact that major layoffs and HB1 violations are happening RIGHT UNDER HIS NOSE in HIS STATE makes this a story that MANY news outlets AND political opponents would pay attention to. The person I spoke with encouraged me to email Representative Kathy Castor, whose district includes Tampa. They also said that they felt this would definitely be considered "newsworthy" and that it would help to (in their words) "blast" the story to anyone and everyone. Verizon is basically doing EXACTLY what Disney is doing, also in Florida, which is also something Rubio should be tending to. I don't care if his opponents jump on this story just to make him look bad, I just want this story to get OUT THERE. So please, call and email hour local news outlets, especially in Florida, and tell them WHY this is a story worth printing. Cal ConEdison did this, and they are under federal investigation because PEOPLE MADE NOISE.

Nor sure if you read any of the other H1B related posts. For example, there was one about Warren NJ (VZW IT) where you need a passport because you are no longer in America. I heard all the Indians were walking around with smiles on their faces on Friday.

Totally true. I know at least 50 people who were let go from that site.....and NONE of them held dual citizenship from India or had H1B. No staff, no contractors. Only Americans were fired - and mostly older Americans. One BIG problem is the definition of "minority" for EEOC, HR, etc.. Even though there are 1.5 Billion Indians in India and more in other places like UK, Guyana, etc. they are considered a minority in the USA. So, they get away with outright, blatant abuse of the system.....and the Sr Mgmt allows them to - led by Raj Gurnani (who changed his name long ago).

The way this works is that huge companies have their lobbyists line the pockets of these politicians via campaign contributions. The politicians won't bite the hand that feeds them, so we are left unheard. If you don't like it, support a candidate that is trying to get money out of politics. That is the root of our problems. Bernie 2016.

917, it is not difficult to look it up. Here is Representative Castor's contact form:https://castor.house.gov/contact/contactform.htm

As for the local news networks, just google the station. There is usually a "tip hotline" number listed.

903, I agree with you. But we can't just hope that Bernie will keep talking about it, and we I doubt we will be able to organize a union and actually benefit from it right NOW, unless I'm not understanding that process correctly. I just think that in terms of slowing down these layoffs, even just causing Verizon to flinch and get back in line, is what I'd like to see happen as soon as possible. You saw what happened, Bernie has been talking about HB1 abuse/layoffs, so Trump had to talk about it. We need people who have a public platform to be talking about this. Verizon hasn't put hardly any effort into hiding exactly what they are doing. That arrogance is what got ConEd in trouble. Verizon CAN get busted for this, if we shine a light on what they are doing.

It would be more helpful if you provided a number and/or email so people could rather than just telling people to do something.

Bernie Sanders has been with the unions all along. He has walked our picket lines he has advocated for us on every level . He folks need to organize Then you'll have a voice. Don't listen to the corporate shills bashing the unions hear and elsewhere. Unions are our only chance to fight these greedy Wall Streeters and their armies of lobbyists and lawyers. United we stand divided our jobs get sent to India.

Do you mean you "called" her office? Do you think the person I talked to is the only employee? She said to email Rep.Castor, so either do it or don't .

Just spoke with someone at Tampa news network. If you don't believe there is power in getting the word out read up on what is happening over at Cal ConEdison. Yes, layoffs happen, but VZ is violating the HB1 laws. Do you realize how many hundreds of jobs they have posted since the last wave of layoffs? They are trying to make it look like we have a shortage of qualified applicants so they can justify the need for more HB1s. This can be documented and proven. There is at least enough documentation to warrant a federal investigation.

Customers care more about another $2 off their bill than they do our jobs. Most people have had at least one negative interaction with Veriozn and think we are all incompetent anyway.
