Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Riffed

My last day with Vz is 11/6. My group has been outsourced to India and we are all laid off. No one in managed services thinks the wireline side of the company will last more than 5 years. They will keep the backbone but will probably sell everything else. Its a bad time to be working for Verizon. Its a shame Bell Atlantic and GTE merged.

Wrong....

GTE/BA merger is the footprint they are getting back to as it is the most profitable area in the country. BA needed GTE so they didn't have to pay exchange carrier fees to them. Now VZ can go all across the Northeast on their own network. $1B invested here will repay itself in a little over 1 year, try that any place else in the country and it can't happen because of the interconnect fees.

Overseas outsourcing has taken customer service to new lows. As consumers who pay a lot of money for services, we should not stand for a third world experience. Smart companies have found that the outsourcing business model is detrimental to its customers experience and image of its business. It's just not worth the cost savings in the long run.

@Anonymous323 Dude the whole reason why everything is outsourced to India is because it is cheap labor there. If you are making $60 an hour here, the Indians hardly make $6 an hour for the same work. I don't think any of these jobs would be outsourced if you are willing to work for half of what you get paid now! That's the sad part of the reality you are missing.

How to get Indian green card. If I pull that off, would that make my job safe, like I'd be part of the preferred class

Good luck buddy. This is for the better. Trust me. I was canned in 2013 and I never looked back. It's much better after VZ.
