Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Don’t feel guilty. Instead be prepared.

Today Verizon is the equivalent of Blockbuster. Mega giant, industry leader, over confident and stuck too long on an outdated business model that relies on 1.) Generating revenue from unrealistic limits on buckets of service and overage charges (late fees in Blockbuster’s case) 2.) Sticking to the retail store model even though consumer base wants to shop that way less and less; and in the millennial case not at all. Buck up Verizon employees because your current c-level leadership still does not see the writing on the wall, which means just like Blockbuster, more cuts will continue. The way human beings, the market and industry are evolving means that data will soon become ubiquitous, a necessity to fully function. This will drive people to purchase data no differently than we currently drive to a gas station to buy gasoline. Eventually, we will demand data is readily available, supplied by local municipalities similar to how we get water. Why do you think Verizon executives are spending so much time and money lobbying against net neutrality? And finally, the way we evolve will demand that data is simply “there.” People instead will pay for security of data and enhanced life/health services, virtual reality and concierge services linked to data. What is happening at Verizon is to be expected from aged leaders in suits. What is happening at Verizon is only a bad thing if you convince yourself to accept status quo. Verizon doesn’t feel guilty about what is happening. Instead Verizon is arrogant even refusing to release the number of job cuts internally or externally. Go to work, smile, do your job while you polish your resume and seek out potential opportunity beyond Verizon. Don’t feel guilty. Instead be prepared.

"Look to your managers for information", yeah, would you like some more kool-aid?

This is a High School book report from 8 years ago, things have changed. Internet connected smartphones ARE a utility, even more so, you can be homeless living in your car and have a cell phone. Verizon is fighting multiple entities to enable customers to pay for ONLY what they want or only what they use, no one else is doing this. "you showed the future of VZ in a kaleidoscope." ~please. Don't waste your time, you'll not get any valid information from this site, look to your managers for information. This site is funded by page views, the more chaos they create the more money they make.

will these cuts, effect ( customer service, sales, support ) call center management in the cssc

or just I/T & Business Ops -

historically frontline cssc call center management have always been " safe " ?

"supplied by local municipalities" - OK, and how exactly will local municipalities do this? They are unable to fix basic things such is trimming trees timely, and we should expect them to maintain high speed networks? Things evolve, and there will be a paradigm shift in our backyard too, but it will not be led "by local municipalities"

Yes fantastic post! "don't feel guilty instead be prepared," 2 years ago I dump Verizon, saw it coming plus I could not stomach another leadership visit, these self proclaimed leaders are the most arrogant jerks.

Great post, thanks. You're spot on for all of it. Instead of getting used to this ominous feeling of dread, I am going focus on the things I CAN control, and try to see this as an opportunity.

I've worked at Verizon for a while now. When I started, people were still punching numbers to text. What we see happening now is the result of a changing market, which seems to be driven by 3 key players and if you think about it, they helped put the nails in Blockbusters coffin. The model you're seeing develop now will usher in the new ways you'll access your data, more accurately, how your data accesses you. VZ is changing from a Ma Bell to a stream lined wireless network. Yet for the life of me, i can't figure out what sort of individual runs a board on US based layoffs out of Jakarta Indonesia?

Thank you. You sound more like a big brother advising to a teenage younger brother. I like the message- you showed the future of VZ in a kaleidoscope.
