Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Keep voting Republican, the party that is owned outright by ALEC and the Chamber of Commerce. Oh yeah, and when a guy comes along who actually wants to represent the working class, be sure and call him a "commie".

I am sure all 3 of them sleep like babies. They care about themselves and their families. It is a total disgrace. All smoke and mirrors with this company. They techs are forced to lie every day just to make the companies numbers. Something has to be done to get this info out to authorities. They lay off thousands of hard working people only to hire thousands of people in the Philippines and India.. They try to blame the Union and the greed. This is all about the Companies greed. Thank God for the union. My only wish would have been for some of the poor people being fired had a Union. All of the Executives should be fired without the hundred of million dollars.

Dear fellow Americans. I think we are just looking at the small picture. Why is all this happening, where did it start and what is the end game. If we are being laid off here, where are the jobs going (India), why India has anyone thought about it. Is a new comer in VZW doing this in order to benefit from it? So get your thinking caps on and spread the word.

Next year is election year to the highest office in the land, make sure they talk of this. Trust me a lot of noise is going to be made on this issue. So make the best of it, if it has affected you in anyway.

I attended a meeting when Lowell visited FL several years ago. Radhika was also in the audience. For one of the questions Lowell (not sure if he was CEO then) answered- " we have no plans to increase the India IT count beyond 1000". In next 2 years that number increased to several folds.

Guess what, Verizon (and other companies)! I don't want to talk to people in India when I have a problem with my service. We cannot understand most of what they say. Maybe that is why you hire them (besides them working on the cheap.) If we can't understand them, then maybe we will just solve our problems ourselves. I will. I will go to another company and drop Verizon. Why are companies like Verizon scrambling for budget cuts and ruining the lives of so many employees by laying them off? Because your customers are leaving for better service and customer support. We don't want to talk to India. We want to talk to someone in the good, old USA who we can understand.

Outsourcing to other countries is very common and legal. Where it gets questionable is H1-Bs being used within the US to replace current US workers. Disney tried that with some IT people in Florida - requiring them to train their replacements. Disney thought better of it when the backlash came.

That's also against the spirit of the H1-B program - companies are supposed to certify that they could not find local talent. That becomes a bit more difficult when you have an existing team you're trying to replace. Companies use outside consulting firms as a way around that, but even with this business friendly government, that practice may be pushing it.

When our government decides to regulate jobs to be specific to US Citizens, then this will change. Until then businesses like Verizon will continue to go to the cheaper options of employing third-party, Visa holding, non-tax paying people, because they are cheaper to employ. All about the the bottom line, to hell with the effect on their fellow American or their country as a whole. The almighty dollar and pure greed is killing this country. The executive level of corporate America are to blame and generations to come will pay for their greed and recklessness.

These Jobs have been around for years? Doesn't sound that way in the article.

For clarification, the 6000 employees mentioned in the article are existing VDSI staffs supporting Vz's IT organizations. They have been around for many years. these are not new employees.
