Does anyone have any numbers as to what percentage of Verizon Enterprise Solutions (VES) employees will be cut? The number I heard was about 40%. I also heard that last year the RIF’s criteria was performance, and this year it’s salary. Is that true? Finally, if we don’t get cut by Nov 30th, are we safe (for now)?

Laid off 3 times under Reaganomics. I was a top performer in my offices in IT. Doesn't matter.... goes by salary, good old boys etc... I feel terrible for the current U.S. citizen workers, now their jobs are going to foreigners here or just plain overseas. My daughter works at Verizon, with the "takeover" there is redundancy. That is REALLY the issue. I know how you feel, been there, done that. My daughter said that no job is EVER safe no matter the industry nor the company. No such thing as "job security" , a gold watch, or a retirement dinner anymore. Very, very sad.
The company will never be the same.
Once you become a commodity, money becomes tight, salaries stay flat and advancement becomes very difficult. The hay days are history.
While management may feel safe, the span of control has changed.
They will quietly be let go soon after the dust settles some. It will work up to directors and VP level.
Saw it happen in the IT sector.
It will be ugly for the foreseeable future.
You can run but ....
experience? no really!!, many accomplished professionals were replaced with younger, cheaper, newbies and ,,,,no experience of course,
@ Anonymous190347 is right: " if you feel like you are not adding value or that your skills are not appropriate you should be concerned..." Also just about everyone's annual Performance Rating is "Performing" . You should be concerned when your department is centralized. thereby creating job redundancies. If you are 50+, high salary, forget it.
The official line is that they are still looking at performance first. At the same time, since they are managing P&Ls, I guarantee you that they are looking at salaries (they have always been). I hope you do realize that this is just a start of cuts and the gradual prunning of the piramyd will continue well into 2016. You may look at layoffs as an ongoing thing - if you feel like you are not adding value or that your skills are not appropriate you should be concerned. Otherwise, you are cool (IMHO)
