Should be another sad and depressing week at Verizon. So much for productivity...

@ Tim- Are you serious? This is great! I think we should all keep pushing this story to our local news. They are much more likely to pick it up if becomes part of the 2016 campaign dialogue. Also, if Bernie addresses it, the other guys are going to want to put in their 2 cents.
@190403 You are absolutely correct the union is a joke!
pointless
I started with GTE Mobilnet when we had 10 employees, one switch and 5 cell sites..... and Verizon let me go after 33 years, they let my husband go after 36 years....age discrimination at it's finest....- it was a great run, they have treated people badly for sure
I have 20 years as a wirelinee tech. and while we are "protected" against layoffs, in My dealings with the union, I am not impressed. As someone posted, they are a business too. I think they are much weaker than years ago and I am not happy with my experiences. And....since the union tech's. are "protected," management is relentless in harassing us and suspending us by making up lies and the union does very little.
Right, because unions totally protect against layoffs. Oh wait, no they don't. Look at ATT. They have a union, and people still get laid off.
It amazes me how easily people fall for that schtick.
Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders will be highlighting Verizon's greed in an upcoming Town Hall call this WED at 8:30 PM EST. Register for the call and listen in as he highlights this greedy company. He will have a Verizon Wireless worker on the call speaking about how we are fighting back.

Folks. we can sit around and wait to be RIFed or we can fight back. This isn't a company losing money. They may 1 billion (with a B) in profits every month. More people are fighting back. Call CWA at 609-658-0033 (c). we can put you in touch with the press, we can talk about forming a union, we can connect folks together. You can visit. www.facebook.com/vzwrising, etc.
Or we can sit back and do nothing while a few more thousand people are kicked out the door from a company whose greed has no limits.
They are definitely laying off the wrong people. They need to be laying off more management and less workers. Who are they going to manage when the workers are gone? Not sure about wireless, but 99% of the managers on the wireline side have never installed a phone or climbed a pole... have no clue what is involved in installation or repair, yet they harass the techs. on a daily basis to get their numbers up so they can collect their bonuses. Whoever came up with that idea was a real genius! They don't give a shit about the employees or the customers and the VZ credo is a big joke. Maybe in the old days when managers worked their way up through the company, no more.
I've been with the company almost 20 years and there's no one here I consider family, nor would I trust further than I can throw them. That goes for management and non. The company has become significantly more toxic to work for each year that I've been here. Why have I stayed? Because I got a bachelors and a masters paid for. Now I can pursue a new career patiently while still working in this hole.
What Kool aid moron. Some of us started here at 20 years old and are over 40 now... so guess what these people and this place have become a family to us. These equal peons have been to our weddings...kids baptisms and bbqs. So many of us have become a family.... your just a negative moron. What are you 20 in this new idiotic "generation ".
The floggings will continue until moral improves. By the way, there's Kool-Aid in the breakroom...
And now let us read as it is written in The Credo, Paragraph IV, Verse the First - “We believe integrity is at the core of who we are.” I BELIEVE, I BELIEVE, HALLELUJAH, I BELIEVE!
Another Nugget From The Credo: “We respect and trust one another, communicating openly, candidly and directly since any other way is unfair and a waste of time.” May I please have another cup of Kool-Aid?
Words of Wisdom and Inspiration From the Credo: “We are good corporate citizens and share our success with the community to make the world in which we work better than it was yesterday.” Can I puke now?
If you are depressed, just pull out your copy of the Verizon Credo. That will make you feel better. From the VZW website: "Verizon Credo -- a set of principles that describes our culture of integrity, respect, performance excellence and accountability. The Credo is a blueprint that directs us to live up to the highest standards possible when serving our customers, shareowners, communities and each other." See, don't you feel better already? Verizon - serving the "communities and each other".
The wrong people are being laid off, they should cut most of the upper management, and leave the people that actually produce something.
Been here 20 years. Seeing peers and people above and below me let go. Seeing executives "retire" that have been in the company even longer than me...I should have had a clue. I heard the rumors but I didn't want to believe it. We are a single family income and even though we I was lucky enough to make it through last week's cut ...I know it's just a matter of time now. I started this job young, met my husband here and made my entire life based around this job. If I get let go part of who I am will be gone. This is a major part of my life. These people I work with are not just people I work with so many are my "family".
I loved BAM, BANM and VZW.
I meant employee, not employer :-/
Despite being a union employer, I do feel terrible that all management has to work this week knowing that their life could change so drastically on Thur and everything they've done to this point is tossed out the window. I would need an ativan infusion. Hell, I have anxiety the last 2 weeks and I am not even part of it. On the other hand, I've known several people who have been rif'd in years past who later saidnit was the best thing that could have happened to them. It's the anticipation and change and fear of the unknown that makes it so horrible now.
It's happening from the top all the way down.
8,000 + layoffs, if every one who is fired tells 20 people about how Verizon treats employees and then several of those friends pass that on to others THEN maybe Verizon will get the message
Hey Verizon your trouble Is not the workers it's the leadership and you are laying off the wrong folks
I will make it my mission to make sure everyone I know or meet knows just how Verizon treats long term dedicated employees.
Soon will be over
Verizon sucks.
Whats worse is that our Leaders won't even address it with us here in my Area...or should I say "Market"! Nothing...radio silence..so now we are all walking on eggshells...
I agree, we shouldn't have to go through this!
I was just thinking the same thing. I think I have 5 ulcers and may have a panic attack.... and I am not even at work yet.
