Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

This one's about me. I know we talk about how shitty VZW is, and how useless most of the management is. but this one's about me...

Will I be able to get another job? Will it pay the same? I'll miss having 5 weeks vacation. I'll miss having the flexibility of having a job that allowed me to come in at 7:45, 8:00, or 8:15. I'll miss not having to punch a clock. I'll miss the satisfaction of doing a god job, and delivering my products on time and under budget. Should some of my co-workers have been laid off, absolutely. In my time here I've seen some of the most useless people in the world, in management. I've seen good jobs not go to Americans, but instead go to India and Indians. It's funny, I go thru times of, "It's OK, I'm a smart guy, I'll get another job", to "man, how am I going to live on 80k less a year". When I wake up in the morning, it's not the first thing that pops in my head, but it does pretty quickly. Plus I'm eating imodium like candy. Anybody else in this place?

I was in your shoes earlier this year - laid off in Feb 2015, and I can tell you that it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I was a wreck for weeks, and after having been with the company for longer than a decade, I felt as though I had lost a part of my identity, so I totally get it. I think that VZW does a fantastic job of passively brainwashing it's emplyees to believe that they will never find a job as great anywhere else - it keeps us passive as a whole, and accepting of the "change" that so frequently occurs within the organization. Take a few weeks, get yourself grounded, utilize the services provided as part of your severance, and begin to look at what is out there. I worried that I'd never be paid as well, or that I'd have to start over with 1 week of PTO, but in reality, my eyes were opened to how much I was mistaken. Within 90 days, I started my new position - I doubled my salary, and now have an extra 2 weeks of vacation (was with VZW for over 10 years!). I also realized what a prison VZW was in retrospect. I was not fortunate enough to work in a department with any flexibility - if I was 3 minutes late, I was receiving corrective action (in HQ)....my experience has shown me that the job market treats former/current VZW employees VERY well - you will all be fine!

Trust me, You are not alone. I'm having those same doubts. How will I find another job that will pay me like this? I'm scared of the unknown. Trying to stay positive and not let the self doubt overcome. I spent half the weekend randomly crying and in shock over what happened. Yesterday I woke up feeling determined to make the best of this. I hope you stay positive and not let this crush your spirit. We didn't do anything to to deserve this and is not reflective of our quality of work.

It is the US that push for free trade and erasing global boundaries. US pushed india very hard to open up its markets so it can captue world's largest middle class consumer. Now many in India is out of their lively hood because most of the products they use come from US and other countirs. Look at coke- more than 60% of its revenues come from outside US. But the profits are mostly enjoyed by US investors. Yesterday Facebook CEO was in India- because there are more Indians on Facebook than any from any other countries. Entire US manufacturing and related jobs shifted to outside countries like China. US consume consumes most of the world's natural resources and they are a small.minority on the earth. While US companies kill local companies in 3rd world to expand McDonald's and Walmart like companies, and kill the billions of jobs in India and take away the revenues and profits, you never raised your voice. When a small number of US Tech jobs taken by India's you make a big noise. They came to US because US government invited them. US Congress begging Indian intellectuals to come and fill the void so their.companies can have.work force. Indians are not coming to US like illegal south Americans. Indians come to US on invitation. Your companies, your government should stop sending these invitations called H1b papers to India. Instead of insulting your state guests, you should talk to Bill Gates, Senators, your loving role modles-either democrats or republican leaders. Once India started globalization, and opened up its markets to US and other neo-collonialist like US companies, billions of its people lost jobs and lively hood. Are you not one of those to be blamed for such job loss in 3rd world? There will be a day where living standard will become more are less the same in the entire world. We already see that in Europe. US disturbed a fine balance of power in Middleeast. And now millions of lives are disturbed. They are migrating to Europe. Indian politicians yielded to pressure from the West and opened up its markets to West. Now it's farmers depend for the seeds from these biotechnology companies. For over 10000 years india supplied food products to entire world. Now they are depending upon others. How funny..

VZW is sealing its fate....cut the high paid, older, reliable, hard workers and replace with the low paid, inexperienced, lazy and clueless workers...all based on a premise sold to them by a man wearing a tight tee shirt! Look at JCREW, where Diego once worked, just read an article in the NY Post, they are losing money....

You forgot thing, all this happen because of VZW useless director, managers and supervisor, for me it’s a case of total retaliation from management and if HR step in it would not happen HR promise me that VZW have a policy to protect whistle blower but that was a total lie and time of my dismissal HR was sitting next to director like a intern from some high school and have nothing to say about why I am being let go. But I believe no injustice go without notice and you will see in coming years VZW will lose more revenue because no company succeed without true leadership, and these directors managers and supervisor are not the true VZW leaders

Here with you. I commute from the city. I'm hourly and know I'll not find another job making 30$ an hour. I do not have a degree... I got here by doing/learning all the things no one else wanted to do. I loved my job I worked hard and my team is like family. II have kids in college and a mortgage.I'm sad to see so many just like me in this position. It will be hard to sit in my desk and work for the next two months. Especially as most of my coworkers are excited about the new things they will be doing. I've never been unemployed. I feel insulted that there is no media coverage. I don't know anyone who was laid off. We were fired. That makes me sad. I'm afraid for the emotions and sadness Monday will bring when we see and hear how much loss there will be from coast to coast. I'm here to o.
