Lots of nervous folks in our center (Southeast) about what is going to happen. No craft employee surplus last quarter. Verizon just cut 8000 jobs.

What they don't want to talk about is the Labor Participation Rate which is at 1977 levels.

So imagine a group of 1000 citizens.
900 of them are discouraged and are no longer "beating their heads against the wall" and have given up looking for a job. So they don't count (officially) as "unemployed."
Of the remaining 100 who were recorded as looking for work, 95 of them find jobs, so the (official) published unemployment rate is 5%. But, even THAT figure, doesn't
talk about UNDERemployed (e.g. waiter with a college degree), and part time.
So the REAL unemployment rate (in my exaggerated example for illustrative purposes of the way this scam works) is (1000-95)/1000 X 100% = 90.5%
There will be layoffs, they need to reduce payroll expenditures, and yes, younger, cheaper labor in the horizon is what is all about.

What we all need to do, starting RIGHT NOW, is to decrease our reliance on any one job (or any single client, if we’re business owners). If we are currently placing all our financial reliance on one employer or one client, we’re being just plain wrong.
Do you really want one company to dictate how you live your life? Did you really mean to set yourself up to be so dependent on your job that if you can’t find another one right away, you’ll be forced to stay in a place you hate for months or (gasp) even years?
Of course you didn’t mean to do that. That sounds like a terrible way to live your life. If a job sucks, you should be able to leave it. If a client is horrible to work with, you should be able walk away from them. So, you’re not there yet? No problem, because starting TODAY, you’re going to change things to enable you to get there.
Will the call center close? My mom works there but does not seem concerned. She thinks I worry too much for her.

They should be, and beyond
