Got laid off a year ago and bypass another with a transfer 6 years prior. This is the Verizon way. Good riddance.

I had a bizarre circumstance once at Vermizon during a RIF. I reported to a new position, then sat at my desk listening to a couple of my new "peers" phones ring, and be summoned to a conference room to be RIFed. Then, after the bloodletting was over, my new manager called a group meeting to introduce me as the new member of the team. AWKWARD!
Fortunately by then there had been so many RIFs the group just shrugged their shoulders and went back to work. They realized it wasn't my fault. And, one of the people RIFed was a strong advocate for me being hired into the group. I felt like $hit for some time. But, sadly it is the way.
Just remember, it's business, not personal. There is likely nothing wrong with those getting RIFed, they just happened to be the target. Those who survive this round can count 100% on there being endless rounds of staff cuts.
I endured them as a worker, and selected RIF candidates when I managed people. I can tell you is isn't easy to destroy others hopes and dreams. I got out of managing people to become a single contributor, it soothed my conscience a little. Upper management should understand that a RIF of a 1000 workers may directly affect 4000 people, as many/most RIFed have spouses and children.
Unfortunately competition is now eating away at the wireless side, sheer numbers PLUS a reduction in revenue per user, kinda a double whammy.
Any person left should be saving $$$$ like crazy, reducing their living expenses, paying debt down or totally paid off, and beyond all: Polish up those resumes and start checking out employment opportunities in your community.
