Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Day one of my new reality, no job. After 20+ years at VZW I now find myself out of job on 1/1/2016. Stratton kept talking about millennials,

like that stuffed shirt would know anything about them. Most of them don't have jobs, and don't pay their own bills. Most of our workforce in the call centers are millennials, and it's a nightmare. Some of my co-workers got to keep their jobs, but I didn't. It sucks.

You know this is what verizon wants right? Blame it on each other, fight internally, blame millenials, or your bosses ANYTHING but the guys responsible.

Hate on millenials all you want, but at the end of the day what verizon is doing is common in corporate America today and the only way to fight it is to STAND STRONG TOGETHER. Don't attack each other - you're weaker that way and it isn't the millenials firing you. Blame the decision makers not the ones who kept their jobs. Fight with your vote, fight with the law, and fight with letters to politicians, and fight with activism. Target the real evil not the straw man they set up.

Do you think it was on purpose they mentioned millenials? ABSOLUTELY. it was to direct your anger there away from the real culprits.

Seniority should not be a consideration on who stays or goes. First thing - is the job going away that's someone's in. Then if there are two candidates for layoff, who's actually doing the work. Where I work, experience matters, so it doesn't mean the the junior employee gets to stay. In the same band, compensation is about the same, so it comes down to who's the better employee, not the one who's been at the company the longest. However, since experience is important, there's an acceptable bias towards the one who knows what they are doing.

Imagine if you folks at Wireless had unionized years ago. Layoffs go by seniority, job protections, etc..

Instead you listen to Verizons propeganda.

Thank Lowell and crew on your way out the door. He'll be fine with the tens of millions he pilfered in pay, options, pension , etc..

I am in the same situation, but please view this as a time for something new and better. It is what it is, and time for us to look forward for new paths without bitterness. We are more than our jobs.
