Can you still collect unemployment in NJ if you're given a severance?

You can apply as soon as you are notified. The State will wait 1 week to process your claim and you will get checks deposited into your checking account. Severence and Unemployment are distinct and separate. You will get both at the same time.

yes was riffed last month with severance and can collect unemployment in NJ

Please check again and reply. I heard (from the transition services company VZ hired for riffed employees) you can;t apply for unemployment until after the "equivalent" of your severance pay "in weeks".. So if you get 20 weeks Severance, you can't apply until after 20 weeks.

Yes, but only if it is paid in a lump sum. If you stay on the payroll and continue to be compensated biweekly then you cannot claim unemployment until after VZ stops paying you.
