I have worked for years in VZW IT. I can tell you for a fact the Indians are NOT the best and the brightest. I know, because I have had to answer their stupid questions about basic Java. I sit near them and have listened to their panicked calls to other Indians to help them because they could not understand the code. I know because we could not understand what they were saying, particularly the ones from South Indian, yet HR told us it was OUR problem to understand them. The absolutely gross body odor that some of them have - again, our problem. H1Bs are only there because they are cheap. Our Sr. Management does not work with them, does not know their lack of skills. I'm not saying all are bad, but this idea that they are getting our jobs because they are superior is a big F'ing lie! Ask one of them how Indian is willing to import labor from countries south of India! They are not willing to do so! Those people that go into India are treated like trash!
H1Bs end up with green cards, become directors, fire the Euro stock and hire other Asians and South Asians. This is America's slow suicide.
H1Bs are so lucrative - nobody wants to let them go. You can abuse them, you can work them to death, you can underpay them, you can harras them, there is nothing they can do as they need you in order to stay here. I do not blame Indians, they want to improve their lives and they come here, my grand parents did the same. I blame greedy tech companies executives who are bringing hundreds of thousands of H1Bs every year (yes 100s of K) in order to depress US tech worker wages.
Contact your congressman. Ask him if he can help you get an H1B visa so you can continue to have a job in IT.
If verizon cared anything about us, they would let the H1B contractors go BEFORE they let employees go!!!

Most of Indians do have double degrees from junk universities and diploma mills sprinkled throughout India - H1B program was created for the best and brightest, if you walk around our Irvine office and engage any of the H1B folks we have here, you'll quickly realize that they were hired because of low cost, not the 'best' and 'brightest' attributes. I'd take any Indian engineer from a top tier Indian Institutes of Technology, yet, they are impossible to get as they are few of them and they get snatched by top the cutting edge players in the tech game. So, please spare me from your whining, the H1B program is nothing but a scam.
Most of the H1Bs are from India. Period. Most of the H1Bs convert to employees. Period.

Yes..it is a big question why we don't say European Americans but say African Americans, indian Americans etc. Most of the Indian Americans have multiple degrees including best US grad school degrees.
Most of the Indian origin folks are US citizens including IT management.
sprint is next, Sprint (NYSE: S) is looking to cut costs multiple ways and is doing so in part by cutting severance pay in half for employees notified after Jan. 30, 2016, that they will be laid off. Sprint plans to cut up to $2.5 billion in expenses over the next six months and has said it plans to lay off more employees but has not said how many or when the job cuts will come. As the Kansas City Business Journal notes, Sprint has typically offered two weeks pay for one full year worked at the company. Now, Sprint will offer one week of pay for a year worked at the carrier. However, the cut in severance pay will happen only if the employees are notified after the end of January 2016. The package will take effect when employees are notified, the report said, rather than their last day of employment. That means layoffs could cost Sprint less money if employees are notified after Jan. 30 of next year.
Sprint spokeswoman Melinda Tiemeyer said that is not Sprint's intention. "There will be notifications before that date," she told the Kansas City Star. "We're not waiting until then."

Are you aware of what has been going on at Disney, where IT has had to train their Indian replacements?
Anyone know or heard whether they are making you train your Indian replacement, like has been happening at Disney? From what I read, they either had to train their replacements or lose any remaining severance package benefits.

Dude, don't.. all the hype around h1s is exaggeration. Your life as an h1b will be miserable. Of course they stick one coz the situation and life in India is not any better and there 's at least more money here. If you're a US citizen and have good experience, try your hand at consulting or startups or move into the management side. Or find roles in defense or other areas where your technical expertise is valued and not easily replaceable. We need to stop complaining because that's how the industry works ... companies believe most roles can be filled with people with basic skills which are available in abundance and if getting those people means lobbying for more guest workers, then so be it. I see a lot of complaining on this forum and that's not going to help us. Instead we need to realize where our competitive advantage lies (can switch jobs anytime, can do startups, can look for federal aid and go back to school, can switch industries...) and focus on making a transition. Let's leave the corporates and their h1bs alone.
How hard is it to obtain Indian citizenship or green-card? Since most Indians say that H1Bs are paid the same as US citizens / green-card holders. I'd like to become an Indian H1B. I'll have an edge because I have a masters degree in CS from one of the top universities in California. I will not have communication issues. Please help.
Not that I've heard so far, only Caucasian friends. Most of my departments and those around me are Indian. Of course, they may have been informed but just not telling me.
