Phone to tower - tower to landline - landline to switch and the in reverse. Cellular technology is not magic. It requires back haul. So consider where debt, cost, revenue and overhead come from. Now consider where and why debt is structured. Don't think for one second all those items land where they should based on usage.

We need some wireline people in where Verizon Wireline Operates, but most of the country where wireless operates was built by other people. And yet the union people make it seem like they laid the fiber across the country. Nope. Not so. But they expect the profits from that to be funneled their way. It's like an electrician expecting lifetime revenue from a house they helped build 10 year ago. I've love to see the union folk cutting a trade a bi-monthly check for work that was completed year ago.

That's how wireless worked in 2008. Mobile switching centers are no longer needed. Wireless has been working to darken existing switching centers since LTE rolled out. With LTE, you can basically run an entire region on a couple of routers and a few pizza box servers. Wireless also relies more and more on dark fiber...no transmission equipment (read cheap). Call control has moved from the switching centers to the cell sites and mobile devices. The sad truth is wireless network employees have been working towards their own demise for the better part of a decade now.
