Verizon Severance Payment

Do you think they will change the severance rules, and go from 2 weeks per year of service to 1 week of severance per year of service (just like Sprint did)? Thoughts?

I heard from two supervisors that there's tal about changing the severance to so its 1 week for every year, capping out at 9 weeks. So if you have over 9 years this screws you big time. I hope it's only a rumor.

The union has no contract.

Verizon can change it when they want to.

I would expect, they do want to at this time, since the NLRB would slam them.

but, I would not be surprised, to see the change, especially on the non union side.

(note, this is not a union board, but a board for everyone)

Union people are immune to RIFs. The company has to post (and somewhat prove) a surplus of employees in a region in order to dump union employees.

Non-union folks have two options .... take the severance they offer ..... or try to sue for age/race discrimination.

But if you chose the latter, good luck finding a law firm that specializes in labor that will take the case on contingency, especially against a Fortune 100 company run total by "wise guys". They've bought and paid for their freedom to screw American labor. Unless you can get a class action qualification, you will lose as individuals.

And if they cut your severance from 2 weeks to 1 week per year .... well too bad you weren't RIF'd earlier .... when the severance was greater and more jobs were waiting for you.

Non-union folks, you're just waiting for the SS (Lowell and friends) to lead you into the trenches .... trenches you voluntarily dug for yourselves.

Happy Holidays!

They can always change the rules for non-union and mgmt folks. All this board is for non-union. I thought union folks are immune to RIF.

Union will not allow it. I hate unions, really, but in times like this, they do help. They would annihilate us had it not been for the union

Even if they do that, that will be applicable from March... just my guess.
