After the last layoffs in November where some Wireline units took 60% cuts now have seen the last remaining contractors have been released just before Christmas - Now the remaining employees will have to adjust to having the Shift Differential eliminated for 2016 - with more cuts we are preparing to bring in our own toilet paper - We are told to get used to having more work for less pay and to smile more as you train someone else to do your job who is overseas.

Verizon has less dark fiber now because they sold a ton of it.

We just placed and spliced all Dark Fiber for the cell sites in our area, LANDLINE. If they have a problem with it, we fix it, LANDLINE.

Got it, Problem VZW has in some areas only provider is the landline side of the house there is nobody else. How do you think LTE makes it to the IP switch? Some of you think VZW is the almighty.

This is what wireless is using and/or is evolving to. Lit fiber has no place in wireless. No circuit switch, no 5ess, no OC48, no DACs, no trunk groups. Dark fiber and IP is how LTE works. Since Vz landline is not a provider of dark fiber, wireless is forced to use outside dark fire providers like Level 3, Cox, Zayo, etc. Connect the dots, landline is not part of the future of wireless backhaul.

2. Have to have ILEC that can and will provide an OC192

3. Have to enough customers that are willing to trade a 60 inch TV screen for a 5 inch phone screen to make it cost effective

All densly populated cell sites have fiber to them now and are XLTE ready and are/will be owned by tower companies. Rural sites are as-is.

The 5g bucket antennas are rapidly being deployed by VZ in certain areas.

VZ has washed its hands of any more FTTP. FiOS is dead. The engineering dept. is non existent at wireline. There is almost no R&D or testing for the FiOS world. Lowell tried to sell off wireline sans a labor agreement with his union employees, he thought he would mold his wireline employees contract to the new buyers liking. It seems this has failed.

VZW workers are being trained to VZ wireline work.

Who has the capital and is interested in buying verizon's landline network in it's current condition?

Slicing up and selling off verizon is a daunting task if not impossible it seems.

I think the point was they dont need to own the landline network to support the cell sites. In fact, if they could get around the backhaul via wireless also they would not be leasing/owning lines from anyone. Selling off the rest of the markets left just like the sale of CA, FL, TX, Midwest etc to whoever will buy it is going to happen. Keeping only the densely populated markets, hoping that Fios would become profitable does not seem to be working. Delivering the pipe via new wireless technology for video, data, voip, is what it sounds like leadership isdoubling down on. Wireless is now 80% of our EBITA Pretty obvious, Good bye to everything else.

VZW "pony up". That is pretty funny. VZW was only able to get going because wireline and corporate ponied up and covered for them. The technology sold itself, kind of like prodigy into aol into broadband. You did not have to be smart or necessarily competitive to succeed, you just had to be in the game. Now the company is banking all of its fortunes on 'millennials' with no money, in a dour economic environment that VZW helped create.

Really you don't have a clue.Have you ever worked on the physical network? I do and can tell you that VZW will walk carefully. Area that I work in VZW does not have its own network it all goes through wait for it FRONTIERS NETWORK. All cell sites only have a OC12 right now and can only be increased to OC48 with the current equipment. Now if VZW wants to pony up they will have put a Tellabs or Fuji NANO at each cell site for a cash strapped company don't see that happening anytime soon Charlie Brown.

I hope the new ILEC charges them exorbitant fees for using the fiber to the towers. VZ has gotten away with that for far too long.

The nations biggest telcom company is steadily heading towards being a dollar junk store of the industry.
