Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Surprised

I'm really surprised that no one has commented on the Webcast today. Or is it that no one is shocked by the information that was shared. I foresee lots more people getting let go. Starting with highest tenure. Even call centers and stores will be impacted. It's all about automation and VLSS making a 60% decrease in teporting, which means a whole lot of jobs will be gone. This is not the same company that I started at years ago, and I am very disappointed. My husband and I both work at VZ. Welll, he did until he was let go on 11/19 as part of the restructuring. If that's what they want to call it. We are thankful for 35 weeks of severance, and a lot of marketable skills that he was given. I'm still bitter, very bitter, but do not know that this is the best thing to happen to us. I'm just waiting for my severance offer too, so I can leave. ;)

All Verizon is known for is being expensive. Once the MNVO's get traction, it will be all over, because that is TRULY what millenials want - Cheap. J Crew t shirt guy can't do anything to fix it either.

I can't believe that the company traded in the "can you hear me now?" and other clever marketing crew for this guy. Previous wireless and wireline marketing was clever enough to work its way into the international lexicon and culture. Now that is 'branding'. The new bunch? Not even a close last place. So it is a good time to be leaving, because a directionless company with no growth prospects will result in cuts every quarter until there is another regime change. I much prefer moving onto somewhere that still sees some good times in the future, and not all in the past.

On the webcast last month, Diego Scotti said, "if Amazon can do it, why cant we?"

This is the "talent" we paid for? Again, originality is non existent. I thought low mac wanted "innovation?" Instead we got this D-bag Biscotti. If I gave a hoot I think I would be embarrassed for j crew biscotti and whomever wasted a check on hiring him.

For vz, efficient = cheap = India. For Apple, largest capitalization company in US, efficiency = cheap Chinese labor. I hear silence when the blog warriors are requested to fight for their jobs and to start by sending back their iPhones?

" So then the hospital implemented new titles for the nurses calling then nurse practioners and giving them daily quoters of patients they had to see without referring the patient to a doctor if only routine screenings or blood work were required."

Do yourself a favor and look what a NP is so you don't look like such a dumbass...

"Its about efficiency aka reducing the number of people they need. Times they are a changing. We are focused on ourselves but companies of every kind are demanding more and more for less and less."

No it is not. It is about short term thinking and short term greed. I personally will not speak to any customer service that is outside the domestic USA. More an more Americans are doing the same.

Who does Verizon think their customers will be, if every company is following the same foolish strategy, when there are less good paying jobs to pay for their service?

The best thing to do is to disconnect EVERYTHING verizon and speak to all your friends and family about doing the same. Spend you entertainment dollars elsewhere.

On the webcast last month, Diego Scotti said, "if Amazon can do it, why cant we?" Um...low producing stores are already being discussed when to close and let reps go, along with moving to Indirect stores since Verizon doesn't pay those employees. Verizon signed a deal to outsource customer service within 10 years. The company is already in to year 3. Manila, Philippines is building a huge CS center, which will take Verizon's calls. Right now calls are being routed to India, Panama and Dominican Republic, besides the US. Verizon isn't what it used to be and it's sad.

Its about efficiency aka reducing the number of people they need. Times they are a changing. We are focused on ourselves but companies of every kind are demanding more and more for less and less. Went to see my doctor for annual check up. She was polite and professional but not her usual self and looked fed up and frustrated' so I asked her point blank what was up? She sighed and paused for a moment then complained she had been turned into a jack of all trades. Apparently, when she ordered blood work previously she simply told the nurse who put in a request and an admin person contacted the lab who scheduled the work. Now, however some super duper consultant had decided that it was more efficient for the doctor to input blood work requests directly into the lab. This resulted in needing training on accessing the lab systems. Data entry, by the doctors, into the lab database resulted in delays for patients. So then the hospital implemented new titles for the nurses calling then nurse practioners and giving them daily quoters of patients they had to see without referring the patient to a doctor if only routine screenings or blood work were required. That too, the consultant decided, could be input directly into the correct hospital dept. or lab by either the nurse or the doctor, except the nurses had not been trained or given access to the required systems so the doctors had to input those requests too. Given a pep talk, the doctors were told "times they are a changing" and they, the doctors, would now be expected to be much more flexible in the "new" era of medical health care. The point I'm trying to make people is this $hit is happening everywhere and we are not alone in facing corporate greed that masquerades as efficiency. Sitting in oak panelled board rooms everywhere these b'stards hold hands and chant " I feel the need, the need for greed." Truly! Bob Dylan was right. "Times they are a changing." And not for the better.

when you stack the board with your buddy CEOs and then fail to be able to sell anything consistently, the only way to impress is to snip, snip, snip, cut, cut, cut.

how many semesters did these people stay in school.....'cause someone needs to give them a refund. my 3 year old daughter and dog could do a better job here.

It will be interesting to see how many customer they lose to T Mobile over the next couple of years because of the layoffs. None of this happens in a vacuum. I know that once the discount dries up, then its all about the cost, because the quality is being laid off out the door along with their reputation and integrity.

More talk of efficiency. Even more automation, so that we have more time to spend engaging with the business. Of course. That must be the reason. We will become fewer and fewer. They need people to help transition to what comes next, but everyone is disposable. Live in a market with a high standard of living? Have a good salary because of tenure? Smoke em if you got em, you are next against the wall. The will carve more away every quarter until we are nothing but sinew and bone, and even that they will burn to ash with offshoring and contract work. Better doesn't matter, but cheaper does when that's the only way to beat a pulse out of a failing business model.
