What is a corporation? Do employees have any role in a corporation like VZ? If not why did I completely dedicate myself to just VZ in the last 2 decades with no other means to survive? If you are working like me please wakeup now. Never be a dedicated employee because corporation is thinking that you are are just like any good that can be adjusted time to time based on demand. Don't work on what is good for VZ. Work on what is good for your resume. Simple and plain.

Smart people learn from their mistakes, wise people learn from other people's mistakes. Not exactly the sharpest tool in the tool shed, I got laid off twice before I learned to stop trying to control the wind (vz) and instead learned to focus on adjusting the sails (my life). It is my deeply held belief we get the karma we make for ourselves. I learned to work hard, for me. Took advantage of TAP funding year after year and was constantly in class learning and obtaining higher and higher technical certifications for several major networking vendors. I was sometimes mocked by my GTE/vz colleagues for thinking "I mattered." I shrugged my shoulders and smiled. Started helping people. Family, friends with their PCs or laptops, never asked for money. Within 4 months I was fixing issues on small company networks. Today I have several small/medium size businesses whose networks I look after. Actually, I don't look after them, my two sons and one employee now look after them. AND! I'm still sucking on that vz teat. Fingers crossed, no RIFF so far. I believe absolutely each of us get the karma we make.(Look up "The Law Of Attraction" on YouTube). I believe in me. not in a gigantic corporation, who doesn't care if exist or not. I'm sorry for each of the lives thrown onto the scrap heap of life, but we need to be honest with ourselves too. Just like the alcoholic has to take that first, most important step of all, and admit he/she has a problem. Houston! We have a problem. Did each of us, as working people, push our lives forward, at each, and every opportunity, or did we sit back, kick back and think "the company owes me, after all, I've have been so so loyalI. I've sweated long and hard, they OWE ME?"This may come as a surprise but vz don't think they owe you anything. No, really. Every week or two weeks or whenever they pay us, vz firmly believes that cancels out any debt it owes you. Whoever your God is, may he or she always walk beside you.

Good advice , I was young, stupid and liking the pay and benefits to understand that 25 years ago. I was retirement eligible but it still hurts to be RIF'd . I kept an empty cardboard box (My RIF box) under my desk because I knew the day would come. Verizon is a job NOT a Career. Work to Live , Don't Live to work. Take your vacations and personal days (I did not) .Have a hobby outside of work (I did not) to keep you occupied when - not if - you are RIF'd. Tomorrow's employment with ANY company , not just Verizon is never promised , ALWAYS keep your resume updated and take as much Internal and External training as you can ..they are mostly online so you can do it at home and weekends.

Well said! The best any corporation should expect of any employee is that they look out for the company 49% while looking out for themselves 51%. A friend of mine had grandfather off the boat from Ireland who taught him and his 4 brothers, while they were in their teens, to makes sure that they have some manner of business on the siide. All of them do, even though his four brothers work in municipal jobs. It was great advice. 50
