When can we start to apply for unemployement compensation in New Jersey? Any ideas?

They ask about how long you have severance too, you can't apply until after severance runs out, at least in Ohio. Good times. They make sure you can't double dip!

Make sure you track your job search efforts while collecting and apply for 3 jobs/week. I did get audited about 6 weeks or so after starting to collect and had to show them my search efforts, etc.

Hubby looked up our rules in Ohio and it appears that you can apply after 5pm on 12/31. Happy New Year to us.

In NJ you must wait until your last day on the payroll. You can do everything online. I had to attend an orientation class which gave valuable info on what is available from the office. Everything from resumé assistance to Dress for Success discounts. Training, computers, fax, etc. Plus an employment database. ...good luck. 6 months only, no extensions anymore.

Here in Ohio we were told to file right away even if you are still on payroll. It takes a few weeks to get the benefits started.
