I have applied to over 60 internal jobs and not a single interview. I have even personally reached out to these folks. VZ might select the people that are trained by a competitor than the internal ones. What a shame VZ.

Same here - it never works
Why go back (re-hired) and have to worry about getting RIF'd every quarter?
VZW,, will not hire back any layoff employees within the first six months. If they do hire anybody, individuals will have to pay back money they received. Also, contract employees have to be approved by HR Director. If VZW have to rehire some employees within the 6 months, these employees will be entitle to everything they lost, vacation seniority and other benefits. VZW will not do that They will interview you but not hire you. Anybody who thinks a layoff employee has been rehired, name the department..
"Bright Future" sounds like a millennial company tool and fool, with little grasp of history or the underlying business. Fortunately there day will come and on that day they will find out what a fool they were.
Though tempting, and I catch myself doing it from time to time, I think it's early to be second-guessing our leaders. This company will achieve greatness more abundantly once its transformative stage has been completed. We are not privy to what they know and see, so it's easy to take potshots. It's also human nature to lash out if you were one of those affected in the phase of tearing things down to the bone before this resurrection can occur. Let's see what happens during the rebuild. It will arrive in the near future. Leaders want us to succeed as badly as anyone in the past did.
actually this isn't the company Ivan built - this is the company hardworking RIFed employees built....none the less, don't plan on getting rehired if you got RIF'ed, you (along with my husband and I) were disposed of - Karma is a bad thing...they have theirs coming
but the company that Ivan built and made great, exists in name only. This is no longer the company of the pioneers, and the whinning and crying of managers and directors that had to go to strike training is testament to that.
For you to believe that Ivan would be delighting in the downfall of a company he made great is to sell him short. He's not that shallow. From what I've heard of the man, I believe he would instead feel for those who are now being needlessly hurt, and be saddened to see something he successfully built up being dismantled piece by piece.
Yeah they will hire back RIF'd folks. I know several in Alpharetta who have been.
"You say Ivan must be smiling."
You bet. Ivan was a telephone man: wireline, wireless, Internet, Television. All comms. The new crowd think the world is all wireless and life exists from tower to tower, which 'real' comms types know is only part of the story.
The Street should be careful what they wish for, because they just got it, and it is telecom lite with the kiddies controlling the purse strings.
The Street will be kicking themselves before too long, as this looks to be shaping up as dot.bomb II.
So yeah, I am sure Ivan is smiling. He went out on top.
You say Ivan must be smiling. I think he was too decent. too much of a stand-up gentleman, to smile at what's now unfolding.
2dcT is right. It is time to move on. Airtouch and all of the b and c team players are now running the company. This definitely ain't your mama's phone company anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if Google (Alphabet) or Amazon ends up buying the company, which would not be a bad thing, as the current lot seems intent on destroying what is left of it. Ivan must be smiling.
they got rid of us for a reason - too OLD was the major reason, too sick was the next....they are not hiring people they have let go back, don't waste your time. Move on
Depends. I've seen a few RIF'd here and they came back in another role, even on the other side of the business. Mostly the a$$ lickers and kissers however. Your skill level means nothing here unless its your lips on someones a$$. I personally won't be their b!tch.
Say you get the max severance of 35 weeks in January 2016 but take abother internal position before 12/31. Do they bridge your service time or do you start all over again? Also, if you get laid off again, you probably won't get any severance ifor they don't bridge your time.
I was rif'd and get 35 weeks of severance. I don't think I want to stay with Verizon the way it is being run now...
I do know of a friend who was RIF'd as well and has been hired in the same organization (IT) but different position.
I know RIF'd employees who have been on interviews and hired back in different positions. Keep networking with hiring groups, that's the only way to stand out with so many people applying for the same jobs.
Unfortunately, they hired our manager who had previously been rif'd. She's now running the whole department into the ground. So yes, they do hire back rif'd employees. But more than that, in the past they offer to bring them back as contractors, paying much less and with no benefits. It's at least some money to hold you over til you get a new job
