Okay, so I am totally good with my outcome in this Oct 2015 Verizon reorg. The only advice to Stratton and Small is next time, sever first, then have the Rah! Rah! Webcast with how the new company will be organized and the cool new 6 Region map with JUST individuals that are staying! Seems like Reorg 101 to me. I hope the new company structure has a better execution strategy than this reorg did. Has to qualify as one of worst but David you go and make this a great Q4! Okay?

I'm the original poster and can answer some questions.

I was very selective in my job search, so it took 7 months for me to find the job that suited me (I turned down a couple offers I knew weren't right for me). I wanted a smaller company with a good culture, and I finally found it. They matched my VZ salary, but the benefits aren't quite as good (but they are decent). They recognize and reward their employees in ways I never thought possible. It's just so nice to be recognized for hard work again.

My message to everyone is to simply keep your heads up. Enjoy some time off to clear your head. It's a very emotional roller coaster and every day brings a different set of emotions. In the end, you'll look back and laugh about how angry you were at Verizon, when in reality, they are doing you a favor considering the future direction of this company.

It took me 5 months to find a job after getting RIF'd. I had an offer from another medium telecom company and a small electronics company and I turned down the telecom. I work at a company of about 2,500 employees and love the nimbleness and lack of red tape. Sure I miss being able to punt problems to other groups, but having real ownership in the results of a company has invigorated me. I was able to get a pay increase over what I was making at Verizon. I was able to negotiate that since the benefits were not as good as Verizon (but I never found a company that had VZ level benefits). Small companies have much more latitude in compensation since they dont have such a rigorous HR as Verizon. I wish I would have known how much latitude when I took this job. Some people have even negotiated lower medical premiums, imagine trying to do that with Verizon (Hahaha).

With the company for 19 years and escorted out the door on your 30th birthday? You started when you were 11?

I am happy to hear this, I will take this to my next employ. I am not as crazy as to say I had the max vacation - but output; well, I have that - does it matter? We will see.

Did you choose a small company or large? Did you take a paycut? How long until you were hired? We are trying to understand what to expect.

Your story reads just like mine. I was RIF'd in January and I was maxed out on vacation too as I never took but the minimum. I kick ass at my new company and many look to me for leadership as we were taught so many lessons at what to do and what not to do at Verizon.
