Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I can see the gulf coast going to texas at least louisiana or more. Many gulf coast states have 2 or more regions with their hands in them. Wonder if the rollout of the plan is in Stratons message tomorrow.

We will find out tomorrow. I agree with what the post says about combining from what I've heard out there in the rumors. Support teams, directors and DMs will probably be hit hard. I know they have been stack ranking. On one hand, I'm scared and naseous about being cut. I've worked at big red for almost 15 years. On the other hand, they've worked me to death and there is probably something else out there that is even better... Or at least I hope.

Georgia and Florida Wireless consolidation is eminent. Since the Regional President left no one has been named to replace which is unusual.

Majority of the attention will be directed at non-customer facing positions. Managers and those Managers will no direct reports will be targeted.

Texas, Georgia, and Virginia? So, the proposed "new build" by CTX HQ(which, where in TX is that at?) is one place. For GA, I assume that's Alpharetta while Virginia will be the Ashburn campus?

Of all the theories, the ones covered in this thread have the most legs. There are certain sensibilities in some of the consolidations mentioned and other speculation appears to have merit due to other announcements and activity previously thought to be unrelated. In Feb we had a warning that the company was going to drastically change, but the reality hadn't soaked in fully until this summer. While VZW enjoyed a fat margin due to wireline infrastructure, friendly backhaul agreements on it, and the ability to finance a superior final network build out, the subscribers came and gladly paid the premium. The good times appeared to be a forever thing. Then as the industry fully matured, growth flattened, and competitive differences narrrowed, the inevitable pricing war started, eating into the margin. Then the ill-advised Vodaphone buyout REALLY accelerated the process. The party ended when the $60B outstanding bar tab came due. The transformations have been in progress for awhile, they were merely perfecting the art of the non-layoff workforce reduction. It's only going to be more of the same. Remember the story of the frog in the pot? It's been a slow boil to get to this point. Unfortunately, a lot of good people just trying to do their job and not looking much beyond that are the frogs getting cooked this time.

All overhead departments will be re-org'd and moved so far from the employee's host location that only a low percentage of employees would possibly entertain. Rather than immense job cuts publicly, the so called "transformation" will, in itself, do the work for Verizon. Your job is either cut or moved to TX, GA or VA and we want you to move with your job (but they know you wont).

Who REALLY didn't think this was lurking its ugly head when they started ranting about CHANGE? Now, the new brand is more SIMPLE. People need to pick up on these words, as they have been nothing more than clues. Earnings were great, but couldn't stop dropping the clues, could they?

Rumor also has it that land was purchased near the CTX regional office for a 3.5m square ft office. So, I am thinking many jobs will be moved there.

You're on the right track. Rumored 16 regions will be announced by Nov 6th. Philly and Florida are two of the 4 impacted regions. Areas will decrease also and will move to specific, centralized locations. Locations have been chosen based on talent pool and those assets with the least amount of cost to the business. Depending on your job function and redundancies, expect an immediate 20% cut by Nov 6th. Those that are left will be subject to HQ's plan to implement transferring all Wireline and Wireless jobs within the selected locations. Employees will be asked to move with the jobs and if they choose not to, then Verizon will simply sever the relationship gently with packages. Belief is all of this will be over the next few years and will reduce cost greatly. If you are not part of the initial layoffs, you have been chosen to be part of the transformation. They will need you stick around to help, so expect to feel special until their needs are met.

There is absolutely no reason for Philly and DC/Baltimore to be separate. No reason (except internal politics) whatsoever. You'll see that one go for sure...
