Vz had a right to first refusal on the vodaphone slice. There was no need to rush. Vz could have bought it for.much less, if it had delayed for couple of more years.

On Vodaphone's acquisition - the strategy was crafted together with McKinsey consulting. They do have a page here but never had layoffs. Kind of tells you a story... "McKinsey & Company is the trusted advisor and counselor to many of the world's most influential businesses and institutions."

I agree that buing of vodaphone slice was a historical blunder of the modern corporate america, that left VZ in largest corporate debt in the world. I don't know who advised such a move..

AOL may turn out to be a good one. If they can nurture online properties, that's a good gig. Also, they get about a billion dollars in revenue from legacy dial up users, that's pure margin.

Umm, you forgot the mother of all aquisitions - Vodaphone's wireless interest for (drum roll please) 130 BILLION dollars!!! It's all play money to the upper executives, because they make enough in one year to last the rest of us a lifetime. Meanwhile if you're a lowly craft or management employee, you have to constantly live with a knot in the pit of your stomach over what they're going to take away from you next. These people have no sympathy and no empathy.
