I asked a peer of mine to be a reference which he agreed to. When the reference company for the new job called my so called peer from AT&T said something about corporate policy in reference Checks and wouldn't do it. Fortunately I found other internal and external references. Seems like a cheap shot and unprofessional on the part of my perr. Anyone else going through this?

That's standard policy. Nothing to do with layoffs.
