Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Working for Verizon

I am considering a position in Wireline - can someone shine more light about working at Verizon. What do you like. What do you dislike?

Don't understand why people on this board are hating on the landline and landline workers? Copper has been getting phased out but the Fiber optic network is hugely popular and is really the future of the landline industry. In many homes you have several devices working over the landline data network. Smart tv's, computers tablets. Running Netflix and other forms of streaming networks a high bandwidth fiber network is the most efficient way to do this. The cable company cannot compare to the speeds Fios offers. Forget about trying to run all of this on a capped wireless network. The men and women who work in the landline department actually love the work they do. Although, there can be some difficulty with what can be viewed as excessive disciplinary actions on the management side from time to time.

Most of the people bitching here are those who were let go. Not a great place for info. It's like asking a high school dropout what they liked about High School.

Worst company ever. If you sneeze you get a 30 day suspension. They have a zero Tolerance policy. First time you forget a seatbelt 30 days. You're out sick 30 days. If you do not do five jobs a day 30 day suspension. My friend had 35 years and the company they bought him an egg sandwich. This is no joke.

Landline? Hell you'd be better off at the telegraph office. Copper wire is dying, and trying to take wireless with it.

Starting to think this board is run by H1B's, as would be the person asking a layoff community about the company.

Think about it.

If you already have an offer, sure, go for it. But if you're still applying, do Wireless.

But the guy (or girl) might be onto something here - glassdoor posts are heavily skewed towards 'positive' - maybe he/she wants to balance 'rosy' glasdoor reviews with more 'bitter' feedback that folks typically post here. After all, our HR sponsors galssdoor, dont they, we have our logos, recruting links, etc. I'd be careful with that info. It's not like you'll get a realistic picture here but at least you can get pros from glassdoor and cons from here

Agreed. This is like asking if Xbox is better in a PS4 forum.

Glassdoor.com

Checking a layoff board is probably not the best place for answers. Jeez.
