Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

In IT (over the last 5 years) Layoffs have always happened on Fridays, the rest of the team is notified on Monday. Always! Announce, whenever.

Only two candidates have discussed closing the H1B loopholes, I'd start posting your concerns on their social media sites, EN MASS!

Trump and Carson are the only two I've heard discuss closing the H1B loopholes. There are 2,000,000 American IT workers in the US, you'd think they and theirs would be all over this. 500,000 non US workers currently working in IT, or 20%, IT salaries are exactly where they were 13 years ago. If you want ANY chance at getting this fixed, the choice it obvious.

If you keep voting Republican you won't have a job! Vote Blue & voice your concerns to a party that will listen - otherwise you'll be unemployed & unemployable!

The rules mangers must follow for RIFs are ironclad, they deviate and they run the risk of termination, they're given an exact day to make the notice because they have to be off payroll by a given date. Where there are a large number of them, it can take weeks for everyone affected to be notified, it sometimes can take up to a month. The nice thing about Verizon is they give people time to look for other spots within the company.

This board is run by Indians, everytime we talk about H1Bs they will insert some kind of nonsense to silence the thread

I'm noticing a trend, you post anything about H1B's and they post a reply, often one copied from below, over the top of it.

Makes me think this board may be run by....?

You keep posting the same thing over and over. I am surprised that admins are allowing this as it may be considered as spam. We get the message, have your kids contact politicians.

In Retail, it can happen any time, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday

The reason Friday's are HR's day of choice; it allows the person to digest and calm down while AWAY from the rest of their team and other employees. If they did it on any other day, the RIF'd person is venting to team members and friends the following day after a sleepless night, whipping everyone into a frenzy of anger and empathy.

By Monday, they've calmed down, regrouped, resume is updated, and they hit the ground running.

At Verizon, people stay on the job, looking for another position for 30 days, so the never Monday or Friday is not accurate for segments of the company I've worked. They transition their work to other team members while they look for other positions within the company.

Verizon is by FAR one of the most humane companies I've worked for when it comes to their employees. I've worked at places where someone shows up at your cube, with two security people in tow and tells you "step AWAY from the keyboard!" Not joking, sadly.
