I find the geographic consolidation idea to be a scare tactic at some level. They merged two regions earlier this year. While some of the operation went OK, the scuttlebut is that issues on the systems and accounting side are still being dealt with. Truly looked like some boy genius had a, "Hey! I have idea!" moment and they ran with it without much planning. From all accounts there appears to be little consensus on how to treat it going forward. With so little success in this type of operation, I find it a little hard to believe that even this set of management will go wholesale on that type of operation on a larger scale any time soon. But then, who said any of this was rooted in logical, long-term thinking?
