Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

DIRECTV and T Layoffs

Furthermore, if New Co consolidates and cuts its workforce without making the necessary improvements and changes to its work practices processes and technologies, then a smaller department is being asked to do the same amount of work. Unfortunately, working harder is not necessarily working smarter. Invariably, staffing levels will in due course creep back up, sometimes to a point that exceeds the pre-merger level.

Recent stats show O & A cost reductions to reach 1.5 Billion in 2016. (Market Realist) I.e synergies.

It was nice knowing you.

Yes was told that as well. More domestic PM jobs cuts due to automation and work done offshore.

All great points. Yet, corporate prostitutes will quickly forget those whose backs they rode to sweet homes, great vacations, fat bonuses etc. I guess I can't blame them. A few weeks of unemployment will get us to the holidays. Unfortunately, soup kitchens are running low on food stock.

Interestingly, ATT will hold you to any service contract you have with them. You can no longer afford the service, but they will hold you to the contract, So, then you have to decide between basic needs and paying your T bill.

We can build houses, volunteer in the community all to build the illusion of sincerely concerned corporate citizenship. So, a day's pay for a day's work. These are your corporate expectations? Don't expect loyal customers beyond the last paycheck.

10 billion dollars in cuts represents a lot of ex-customers.

Yes cost cutting is happening everywhere. Our group has trouble rasing $1. We are expected to provide the same level of support at 1/4th size which is impossible. Sooner, things will break. What makes things worse is that TechM who is supposed to take care of Tier1 support is also cutting back their resources, basically eliminating people who have lots of experience and who came from AT&T during one of the layoffs. It is a scary situation that AT&T has put themselves into.

I was just on a call where it was stated that GMs have been given a directive to cut $10 Billion of cost out of the company by 2020. No way to do that without cutting lots of heads.
