I have been working at Verizon full-time for more than 12 years - What can I tell you, I may be laid off soon. Benefits are great but they will always hold your job over your head unless you are in the union which I am not. I am worrying constantly about losing my job and have to face clueless upper management, constantly changing priorities with the customer coming last. If the customer keeps coming last, you know how that's going to pan out, you can milk it for a while, but look what's happening with cable, people hate them and jump at the first opportunity to leave

That whole H1B thing is such a joke, we had a h1b lady here who after 4 months in the country could not dial long distance as the prefix was confusing her
Don't worry, Verizon will replace that guy with 5 H1B visa people that are 1/2 as smart, twice as lazy, and work for 1/4th as much .... and still not be able to get the job done. But as long as it cuts costs so the big execs can meet their cost-cutting goals and grab them big bonuses, that's what will happen.
Management also often rushes to judgement. For example I know a guy who was with the company for over 20 years. He made a mistake, an honest mistake. If an employee makes a mistake and has an absolute clean record, you should not cut him loose like they did with this friend of mine. Train him on what he did wrong so everyone can learn, improve and move on. Do not just automatically assume he is a liability and cut him loose. It's stupid Verizon, it's stupid.
