Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Many layoffs in IT by end of 2015. It IS happening and it's happening because of the Vodaphone buyout and because of offshoring.

We often think of the good folks as being gone, but it's actually quite worse than that. Many of them now work for the competition. So not only have we lost their talent and the contributions they made to our organization, we have allowed the value they provide to be now enjoyed by our competitors. I guess they don't teach this in business school.

Lease backs of buildings and towers and bloodbath layoffs are all cash flow band aids. $60B of debt to service is killing analyst outlooks. Looks like that big chest-thumping move of owning all of Wireless wasn't really all that smart of a move. Other than saying VZW is wholly owned, what has it really done besides make people lose their jobs? Maybe concentrating on what got them so large should have remained the focus. Can't service customers and develop business without workers, getting rid of them is a move in the wrong direction. "Shareholder value" is the latest BS justification for a lot of these moves. Slapping on 3-qtr fixes instead of addressing long-term growth and performance are what will do this and other greed monsters in. Here's hoping the stock tanks once operations fall apart and all the C-level stock package goons take a (comparative) punch to the jewels.
