Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Anyone finding anything internally?

I am a college educated L1 supervising manager and have been with AT&T for about five years. I came in off the street at the time with my MBA and have been working in a growing department however my span of control did not meet the new requirements so myself and several other less senior managers find ourselves surplussed. I have never gone through one of these with the company so I am applying for anything I am remotely qualified for however upper management is being very quiet about our chances to find something.

Everyone on this site is all doomsday and layoffs but the company gives us 60 days to find something internally and a slew of jobs have been opening (at least in the DFW area). Anyone having any luck so far or have had luck in the past during one of these things? Hopeful to stay on board even if it is in a new role but I don't know what my chances are.

The hiring process consists of the hiring manager sending your name to staffing for selection. You're then vetted by the hiring org's vp before a formal offer is made. This is simply a formality where the vp just signs a form to rubber stamp the hiring managers decision. It usually takes about a week or two from the time you're selected to when you get a formal offer.

Thanks for all the responses, I had several interviews internally some of which are waiting for VP level approval to be given and offer while my deadline date is creeping along. I went out on the street at the same time as looking internally and I have already had several offers outside the company. My network internally keeps telling me to hold on as one of the two jobs that are "waiting" on VP approval will come through. My question is, how was the job opened up if it didn't already have VP approval? Its been weeks and the livelihood of my family is at stake. This just seems like a shady way of doing business. The thought of leaving the company never crossed my mind until now...

Anyone else found anything internally that was surplused? I noticed from a lot of posts quite a few people are opting to not even look internally.

I wonder, when all the worker bees are gone, what need will there be for directors?

Is it just me or does it seem like AT&T is keeping associate directors and above while cutting the worker bees L 1 employees? Very top heavy and such a joke!

The chances of getting another job within AT&T is slim. I was surplussed earlier this year and applied for over 50 positions. Many mirrored the position i was in at the time. I did not get a single Interview. Good luck! I would seriously focus on employment outside the company.

Advice to suplused Management, I am a senior manager in mid-markets, and for some of the current cut employees, I do offer some input;

The question is if someone with low tenure should stay at all, when layoffs will continue in the next 4 years. is very hard to keep up with business needs when a" dark cloud "is on people's heads every time surplus announcements are made official, which will be often.

No position is secured anymore, engineering and IT operations are been cut and sent overseas, customer service units, cuts will continue

And sent overseas as well, without a workforce, the management chain can exist.

Therefore someone with low tenure will be best serve by finding a job in a company with a better outlook in the long run, and in which you are valued by your experience and achievements.

For some one with 20 years of employment, will be very difficult to keep your job for the most part, I would recommend to be very flexible and unpaid relocation is on the plate if you want to remain with the company, unfortunately ATT knows how to get rid of old employees very well.

I typically don't offer advise in this regard, but I feel compelled for the way ATT is treating employees for profits.

Everyone one see's through the false statements about caring for the customer's and employee's, ATT can't spot talent even if it's on top of the board.

I wish success in you career, is always best to prepare for the long term, I want you to see your self, as if you where playing a game of chess.

Good luck!!

First, I'm sorry for the situation you were forced into. I myself was not surplused but I had a job offer rescinded because they want to give the position to a surplus affected employee. From my conversations with staffing, your competencies in amplify have to match at least 70% of the competencies for the job title you're applying for. Otherwise, you will not get an interview. Good luck to you.

Good luck with the search - many open reqs were revoked but do not lose hope and continue searching. Given the direction (control headcount), you are fighting an uphill battle but something might come up. Let your whole internal network know that you are searching, even people that you may not know that well. Your best bet is that someone recommends you for a role that's opening up or will be opening up soon. Again, it's an uphill battle as a) 60 days is not a lot of time to find something and b) There is general direction to control headcount. God bles.
