Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

The only way to make gains is to have a credible threat of a strike. In order to have a successful strike, you have to unity among the working groups, unfortunately Out UNION is missing in action.

Strike? The union is not about the workers, Communications Workers of America Local 6150 is the downtown Dallas-based union branch whose 150 or so members work for AT&T. Their union dues are taken straight out of their paychecks, sent to the CWA, then returned to Dallas and deposited into the Live Oak State Bank, where Local 6150 has a single checking account to which three officers have access. They can touch the checkbook only to pay for phone bills, rent and other “authorized expenses.” And even then, two of the three officers have to sign each check.

But according to documents filed in Dallas federal court , secretary-treasurer Sharon Ratcliff has spent the last five years embezzling close to $80,000 from Local 6150. She admits to spending that dough on everything from a Keurig machine to liquor to unspecified “souvenir gifts.” If the court accepts her plea, Ratcliff faces no more than five years behind bars and no more than a $10,000 fine. She has also agreed to pay back the $76,525 she stole from the union, ofcourse there is more peple involed, it just matter of time to be uncover.

Need I say more than God’s Word above? We are watching the Biblical heritage of our nation being destroyed before our eyes. We are called to build the wall and stand in the way, CWA will prevail, in this battle, for our families and for our children

AT&T Inc. Chief Executive Randall Stephenson asked a large group of interns in his office on Tuesday whether they paid for a monthly TV subscription. Only one hand went up.

That is tough news for the executive who last month closed AT&T’s $49 billion acquisition of DirecTV, making it the largest pay-TV company in the U.S.

This CWA/ATT event is for southeast, 9 states, pretty much when the acquired Bell south

cWA/Verizon wireline, is also out the contract in 14 states including Florida, which now belongs to , Frontier in 2009, and this year Verizon Fios is Frontier as well , Elimination of Job Security

Thousands of dollars in increased health care costs to actives and retirees

Forcing you to choose between a Defined Benefit pension that will be frozen at 30 years, or an enhanced 401(k) plan

Elimination of Accident Disability

Elimination of the Family Care Leave

Elimination COLA

Increased Contracting

If they do decide to strike, will that include all AT&T workers, or just wired? I am in Texas but I am in mobility.

I don't think they will, but even if they do I think the CWA will learn real quick that despite that 96% yes vote for a strike, many of their members are not interested in trying to live on their strike pay for very long, if at all. I believe most would cross the picket lines pretty quickly.

I had a CP assignment not too long ago and my contingency supervisor called me the day before contract expiration and told me not to worry about traveling out there. They guy I was to replace had already said he wasn't participating in any strike. He couldn't do without his paycheck even for one day.

I hope they don't strike. I think everyone in AT&T knows that their job, for the most part, is on the line in the next few years. I can't see AT&T including 'job security" in the contract like in past years. Many of the techs here are just waiting for a buy out package to leave. I wish the company would just go ahead and offer a buy out for the union techs since so many of them want to go, and then the younger people with less years can keep their jobs. Just my opinion though.

I don't see them striking. For the reasons already listed plus they won't have popular support. No matter how greedy AT&T may be (and we all know they are) its hard to get in front of the TV cameras during a strike and complain about making "only" $35 an hour with a better than average benefit package when there are so many people unemployed or working multiple part time jobs to try to make ends meet.

Cwa will not strike. The company could care less about wireline services and the union members can't go very long without a paycheck. That said, the unions have lost their power and they better get used to it because the software defined network won't need too many people to maintain it.
