Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

D-Day August 21st

People are being notified that they have to be off payroll by August 21st.

Hits range from 14% to 39% depending on department and amount of people in it.

More to come 4th qtr or before.

Why? the need to recover Direct TV and Mexico Cell purchases. How? cut people in the US not anywhere else.

The next excuse will be your lack of training on needed technology or other excuse like the need to have a degree in

something useless in the department but as we are told will be valuable in other departments. Anyone need training in dial tone loading.

The can is nearly empty.

I was in a surplus group earlier this year. The same option was given. We could leave at the end of March or take 60 days to find another job at AT&T. Good luck with that. I applied for over 50 jobs and didn't get a single interview, even for positions that I was qualified for.

Wow , not even close

"There are two options when you're surplussed. Option 1 is to stay on until Sept 29th and look for a new job. Option 2 is making your last day Aug 21. ATS is a separate division from IT. ATS is in Mobility and stands for Advanced Trouble Shooting.

ATS = Advanced Technical Support and it is NOT in Mobility it is in the GNO under a new VP

As in the country so in ATT, low information voters

Verizon had the service with On-Star for the cars. the service was clear and never failed. ATT has it now and On-Star is getting tons of complaints. Dropped calls and delayed connections. Also ATT increased the charges for the 4G service and did not bother to keep the lower 3G prices . The old price was $750.00 for 3 years . The new price is $ 999.00 for three years.

Want to guess how many will drop? . On-Start is telling customers the increase is due to the cell network upgrade and unavoidable.

Yes I dropped my subscription to On-Star and will wait and see if price drops when GM realizes it's mistake.

Oh another small issue is ATT moved Connected Car and On-start servers to Canada and outsourced the support.

Look for a job???????? Dream on. All departments have been hit and unless your really needed you wont get a transfer.

I also saw the Aug 21 date for a few people in GNO. Seems like each department has the option to allow the 60 days or do it sooner. Either way the peson gets the severance money.

Where is this 8-21-15 date coming from? The layoffs were mentioned months ago and we were told they would be announced on 7/31. The plan was clear that you could stay on payroll until the last day in September. Did they just make another announcement to other groups not affected by the last round? What is ATS? What division in IT? The folks in ATO (Tech Ops) and Construction & Engineering affected by the surplus were informed last week. I don't get this OP unless this is a new round in other departments. If so it seems far harsher than before.

AT the company has been looking to axe unwanted DSL customers in markets it doesn't want to upgrade.

But it also saw a drop in U-Verse video subscribers of 22,000 thanks to cord cutting.

So basically AT&T is losing wireless phone, fixed-line broadband, and U-Verse TV users. Meanwhile, it's about to spend $68 billion (including debt) to buy a satellite TV provider on the eve of the Internet video revolution. That's cash that could have gone a long way in helping AT&T's fixed-line network keep pace with faster (DOCSIS 3.1) cable speeds.

I thought we had 60 days to find a new job in the company. That means we can stay on the payroll until sept 29th.
