Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Good people gone

I'm angry. They hit our department by more than 30%, we lost a lot of good people who work hard and are great 2nd level managers. Lots of 1Bs who are non productive bumps on logs who add no value to the company or department were safe. It hurts to see good people gone and ones that should never of been here still in their positions. My coworkers/friends who are affected are feeling happy this weekend. Happy to be done with this BS. I think it's a wide range of emotions for everyone.

I wish - these CEO's could be given such layoff's since they are elemental in these problems - perhaps their bad planning results in to company cash flows and other problems then they axe resources who are vital to company and think they are great!

I was given no warning and with almost every person who worked on servers either programming or build in the department the moral is so bad it is depressing to be here even for a few more days.

to answer the outsource question, Clinton spent his first 4 yrs getting NAFTA passed , then increased USA corporate taxes , increased EPA regulation and then made China the most favored trade nation.

Ok so it continued when company's found it cheaper to ship it out. Sadly a lot of people in the country not only ATT are clueless to what is going on until they are hit and the common statement is " I did not know this was happening" Most people are too busy either reading their cell phones or listening to politicians on how great everything is.

when ATT sold the east region ( Connecticut) everyone said it was only a little company so who cared. That little company is only the first to be dropped. ATT does not want wireline or wired video ( u-verse ) . Why do you think they outsourced connected car and on-star to Canada? Why is the cloud services being planned centered on outsource company's? Wake up and look around. If you wait until the last day you will be in a pool with everyone else who got hit. Jump quick if you find another job, any job.

I have also been declared surplus and my last day is 9/14. All of our work went to India!!!!! I am the breadwinner for my family and my husband's company just closed in March. Now after years of making decent money and being able to provide my family's needs, at 53 years old I will hit the unemployment line and worry about losing my home?

horrible!!!

I know some incredible people who got surplussed. One is one of the hardest, if not the hardest, working person I've ever met at AT&T. She would commonly do other people's work and work late into the night and on weekends. Her management let her down. She and four other people on her team kept working on outdated technology and were not given any chance to advance. So, AT&T now loses a phenomenally dedicated worker because they kept using her and her team to work on very outdated technology. The sad thing is my former team is now being trained to do the same outdated work. So, really, the cycle continues.... But with my friend, I'm very worried about her because I don't know what she is going to do. She is the primary breadwinner for her family and she did not see this coming at all.

My department in California wasn't effected but I was told that around 10 2nd levels were demoted to 1st levels and then 10 1st levels were laid off in C&E in Northern California. I also think that if some people say it can not happen to them then they are probably the next to go. A person can't be too bright if they think they are immune from what will happen by 2020. I would think we will have another round at the very end of 2016 if there is not a strike by the unions, and it will probably result in just as many people laid off as well. But when all 1st and 2nd levels have been forced to watch those Leading with Distiction video's and those 2020 video's....you know they are serious about "serious" downsizing. 2020 has started and the top levels of management are very serious in my opinion.

Too many people are living in the dark and think it wont be them. The company is going to be down by 45 % or more by 2020 and the number left will be either located in India or out to contractors. The real sad thing is most think it will not be them. IT hit a lot of people very quietly and not one peep from anyone.

When 4th and 3rd line is demoted or laid off what do a few others here who say its all rumor have to say?

they came for the guy down the street and I said rumor. they came for the guy next door, rumor I say.

I got an email with a one line statement. " due to the reorganization of the department and the need to adjust headcount, Your being offered the ability to leave the business with a severance determined to be one of the industry's highest. Your supervisor will be available for further questions. You must be off the payroll by August 21 2015."
