T-Mobile the smallest carrier! So why do we copy everything they do e.g paying full price for the phones, rollover data etc.
Per the management compensation plan, your severance will be 4% of your salary per year of employment up to 50% of your current salary.
And as for the OP, really?!?!? You think one little promo from the smallest of the national carriers is going to run our mobility organization into the ground?!?!?
I wonder if the guy that originally posted is an employee? If so, you should have gotten a letter mainly because you don't seem terribly intelligent. Whatever crazy promo of the week that TMO or Sprint is doing pose little threat to AT&T. Look at the number of wireless subscribers we are still adding as recently as last quarter (guessing you haven't). I would not want to be on the wireline side of the business right now, but I can also tell you there were plenty of cuts here on the Mobility side. I know of several extremely intelligent, hardworking management folks in Mobility that were handed their papers on Friday. Really just ask yourself if what you are doing right now is vital to the business (work related to technology optimization, turning off legacy networks to reduce power consumption, stuff like that). If not, then you're vulnerable. Heck, we're all vulnerable. Best of luck to all.

When I said I am a LEC/EE I really just meant LEC. They changed our title to EE in the West to conform with other areas of AT&T. I personally don't have a degree but just a lot of experience. But I know my days are coming since we were told that they only expect to have about 40% of managers here in 2020. So it is really just a number game and people really shouldn't take this personally, IMO. I'm sure I will be upset the same as others are when I get my letter one day. I heard though the severance is 2 weeks pay for every year....so if that is correct it isn't too bad for those of us with enough years to retire.
I was an EE in Mobility and I got laid off. It's ok, though. In ATO, DeVry is considered to be MIT and of you have an engineering degree from an actual accredited university, everyone gets really angry about that.
Landlines is not the place you want to be if you want to keep your job for the next couple of years. I'm in engineering, and the Pole and Copper people are the ones that were given the letters the other day. I'm a LEC/EE engineer and we are safe so far and I feel we will be safe for another round, but after that who knows what will happen. I feel the engineers that work with fiber, in the big cities with plenty of data service orders for high speed bandwidth business customers, should be the safest jobs in engineering for now. But if the first post about "Landlines" is meaning the copper voice (POTS) lines, being safe, than that is far from the truth in my opinion. If I were working with copper circuits at AT&T I would try to get out of that job and into the high speed fiber world. The Mobility (Cell) departments should be the safest in the Engineering departments.

The US Wireless industry is under pressure from T-Mobile, however the reality is a lot of the long term profitability and outlook is in the wireless sphere. This is unless ATT wants to start making a more serious investment in fiber, which is expensive and has a long return on investment. Unfortunately, the botched T-Mobile deal a few years ago by ATT has enabled T-Mob to do what it is doing today.
