Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

More layoffs are expected in IT

I am hearing that Tier 2 support are going to be laid off. The funny thing is that even TechM is being laid off as well. The new vendor that is coming in strong is Accenture. AT&T brought in TechM to save money and get rid of AT&T employees. Looks like it did not work very well.

If AT&T lays off more people who will be doing the work? The managers and VPs?

They bought in AMDOCS too . TechM is not completely out. Just some areas , all the TechM people found jobs internally, I mean all in our group. Only the fulltimers are having difficulty finding them.

Not only Accenture but many other contractors are being hired all very very quietly.

Having Accenture come in is not good for us especialiy being tier 2. As far as the quality is concerned, I am really not that impressed. Furthermore, are systems are very complicated and highly customized, picking them up is not easy. The management is pushing in creating run books and infrastructure to dummy down production operations. The problem is we do not have enough knowledge left or resources to accomplish this. If they layoff more of key knowledgable employees maybe they should shut all those systems down.

Once Accenture gets in it's difficult to push them out, they spread quickly - the quality is typically there but I am not sure that this is a good thing for us
