I have a buddy who was affected by today's surplus decision. He had traveled to Texas with his own money to be in what he thought was a better and more secure place. at&t can claim they are looking out for their employees, willing to do all this training to realign skills and such for the vision of/path to 2020 but after today's decision, SBC-operated at&t feels just like the SBC name they tried to bury after taking over all the baby bells in the last 15-20 years.

Make no mistake, no matter what the brand name is, SBC is running this show.
Did you see Randall Stephson slip at DTV announcement? SBC I mean AT&T... SBC, least innovative company of the lot but best at contains cost by making little to no investment in employees or company.
This does not surprise me. ATT is not a Premier Corporation anymore. People need to think twice before jumping place to place to save ATT. I would NEVER use my own money to keep a job that is not secure.NO jobs in att are secured. If att is not paying out of their pockets to re-locate you than they are letting you know that you aren't worth much to them to retain you on their payroll.

I honestly feel like AT&T is the most unethical company I've ever worked for. A company doesn't have to care about their employees to not screw them over. I'm very angry to hear they'd surplus someone who moved on their own money. What is your friend going to do? My heart truly breaks for him.
The 2020 stuff is all lies. They're not actually training people in anything...where is the JavaScript training? Agile development training? All they do is make everyone take those generic technology pivot classes that are just a survey of stuff that could happen. Meanwhile things like the Udacity training cost just as much if you're not working for AT&T.
At&t just like any other corporation in America cares nothing for its employees or its consumers on any level. Corporations have always been about $$$$ and will always be about $$$$ greed plain and simple.
They care about one thing only and that is $$$. People do not matter to this company. Plain and simple. They are merely a means to an end.
